  1. What do these word groups have in common? 1.2. 3. Monogamy Bicycle Triplet Monosyllabic Bifocal Trio Monochromatic Bisexual Triangle Monorail Biweekly Trimester Monotonous Bisect Tripod

  2. Name Number of Terms Example Monomial 1 (monoimpliesone) 4x² Binomial 2(biimpliestwo) 4x² + 3x Trinomial 3(triimpliesthree) 4x² + 3x + 5 The expression  4x² is a monomial because it has one term. The expression 4x² + 3x is a binomial because it has two terms. The expression  4x² +3x + 5 is a trinomial because it has three terms.     All three expressions can be called polynomials.

  3. MONOMIAL 1 TERM

  4. BINOMIAL 2 TERMS

  5. TRINOMIAL 3 TERMS

  6. Add: (2x2 - 4) + (x2 + 3x - 3) MATCH UP LIKE TERMS!

  7. Try it horizontally (ACROSS): (6x + 2y + 9) + (-3x - 5y - 8)

  8. Find the missing terms:(4x + __) + (2x + 3) = 6x + 5 (x2+6x+7) + (3x2+ __ +1) = 4x2+13x+8

  9. ALL ABOUT SUBTRACTION Simplify:  (2x2 - 4) - (x2 + 3x - 3) Tip: Remember to distribute the NEGATIVE

  10. Practice! (3x2 - 1) - (2x2 + 7x) 2. (-6m - 2q + 8) - (2m + 2q + 7)3. (3x2 + 2y2 + 7) - (4x2 - 2y2 - 8)4. (3x2 - 4x + 6) - (-2x2 - 3x - 9) 5. 6x2 - (4x2 - 20) - (-30)

  11. Opening Day! Major League Baseball teams are divided into two leagues. During the period 1995-2001, the game attendance N and A (in thousands) was: N = -488t2 + 530 t + 24,700 A = -318t2 + 3040t + 25,600 If t is the number of years since 1995, about how many people attended all Major League Baseball games in 2001?

  12. Perimeter and Polynomials The sides of a triangle are represented by the expressions2x2 + 4, 5x2-x, and 8x + 3. Which of the answers is the simplest expression for the perimeter of the triangle?
