The moon jellyfish has a saucer that is at the top part of the body. There are 4 horseshoe - shaped structures near the center of the saucer that are yellow, pink or bluish in adults. The saucer is 16 inches wide.
This animal lives at the surface of the ocean and large harbors. They can be found in the Atlantic Ocean, Pacific Ocean and Indian Ocean. (The purple area is where they live.)
The moon jellyfish eats shellfish, crustaceans, fish eggs, larva and plankton.
It protects itself by using its stingers that are located under its saucer. They are poisonous.
The moon jellyfish turns purple or orange depending on its last meal. • If an animal eats a jellyfish the animal dies. • A moon jellyfish has no brain, blood or nervous system.
