Biography Frances Goodrich Albert Hackett • Born in New jersey on 1890 • Actress and writer • Married Albert on 1931 • They wrote scripts for famous films such as It’s a Wonderful Life, Father of the Bride • Died of cancer on 1984 • Born in New York in 1900 • Made his stage debut at the age of six • In 1950, they wrote the adaptation of The Diary of Anne Frank • Died of pneumonia on 1995

6. WORLDWARII World War II began when Nazi Germany invaded Poland in 1939. Germany was part of the Axis powers, which also included Italy and Japan. On the other side were the Allies, which included the United States, France, Great Britain, and the Soviet Union.

7. Historical Background H I S T O R Y • Annelies Marie Frank was born in Frankfurt, Germany, on June 12, 1929. • Although they were Germans, they were Jews. • Jews faced cruel treatment and persecution in their own country, by the Nazis. • Adolf Hitler was the leader of the Nazis.

8. Holland • Hitler blamed the Jews and Gypsies for all the problems in Germany • In 1933, Otto Frank, Anne’s father moved to Amsterdam, Holland trying to escape the Nazis • In 1940, Germany invaded Holland and the Franks were trapped in the country

Anne and her family • On July 6, 1942, Anne and her family: father, mother, and sister, moved into the “Secret Annex”, a small attic area hidden above Otto’s office. • They were joined by Otto’s business partner, his wife, and his 16-year old son, Peter. • Later, Mr. Dussel, a dentist, joined the group

17. He took over as warehouse manager in 1943 when Johan Voskuijl fell seriously ill. He’s unaware of the people hiding in the building, but he's an inquisitive type and became suspicious. The people in the Secret Annex noticed that he's setting traps in the warehouse. He placed papers on the corners of tables so that they fell off if you walk past. He was a suspect in two investigations into the betrayal of the people in the Annex, in 1948 and 1963. But no conclusive proof ever came to light. Willem Van Maaren
