Some Surpriseswriting and the future Sue Thomas Professor of New Media De Montfort University NLab Open Workshop 23 June 2006

As more and more dimensions of the real are translated into binary code, we open up the possibility for entirely unexpected modes of synthesis to arise, patterns of connection and integration that for now seem barely conceivable.Of course they will arise as an imagination. Observations • Writers are more in demand than ever before but they don’t always understand what is required of them. • Content providers have a growing need for writers who understand new media but don’t know how to find them. • There’s not yet enough connective tissue in the transliterate attention economy to properly monetise it :)
Growing Connective Tissue • Understand who and what makes the connective tissue that you need & focus upon growing it by: • Developing your own skills in the right direction • Building strategic collaborations - this is all about collaboration and sharing • Not wasting time trying to educate those who will never get it
