  2. Astrological (adj) • Related to the study of the position of the stars, the sun, and the planets in the belief that they influence earthly events • Astrology (n), astrologer (n), astrologically (adv) • Many people have a strong belief in astrology.

  3. Divination (n) • Foretelling the future by finding patterns in physical objects • Divine (v) • Coffee grounds and tea leaves provide two mediums for divinations.

  4. Haunt (v) • To continually appear (in the form of a ghost) in the same place or to the same person • There is a ghost that haunts my home in Zambia.

  5. Horror (n) • Strong fear mixed with disgust • Horrify (v), horrific (adj) • I do not like horror films.

  6. Intermediary (n) • Acting as an agent between people or things • Two people having a business argument might use an intermediary.

  7. Invoke (v) • To call on for support • Invocation (n) • People sometimes invoke the spirits for assistance in daily life.

  8. Meditate (v) • To reflect; to think quietly and deeply for a long time • Meditation • People who meditate react better to stress and live longer lives.

  9. Phantom (n) • A dimly visible form, usually thought to be the spirit of a dead person, sunken ship, etc. • Phantom (adj) • When people lose a limb they often experience phantom pains.

  10. Psychic (adj) • Relating to the supposed ability of the human mind to sense things that cannot be observed • Psychic (n); psychically (adv) • Some psychics help the police solve crimes.

  11. Self-perpetuating (adj) • Having the power to renew oneself for an indefinite period of time • Self-perpetuation (n) • Many habits are self-perpetuating.
