  2. OLD TESTAMENT WORSHIP PATRIARCHAL AGE ABEL - NOAH - ABRAHAM - ISAAC - JACOB BY FAITH - BUILT ALTARS - BURNT ANIMAL SACRIFICES MOSAIC AGE THE LORD’S PASSOVER - YEAR-OLD MALE LAMB - CELEBRATED YEARLY LAW OF THE COVENANT - GREAT DETAIL LETTER OF THE LAW - INTENT OF THE LAW BURNT ANIMAL SACRIFICES – (BULLOCKS - SHEEP - GOATS - DOVES) ARK OF THE COVENANT TABERNACLE - SANCTUARY - TEMPLE OUTSIDE THE CAMP - JERUSALEM KEEP THE SABBATH DAY - THE LORD’S PASSOVER THE LORD CHOSE THE PLACE OF WORSHIP BOOK OF THE LAW READ I AM FULL OF BURNT OFFERINGS I DELIGHT NOT IN THE BLOOD OF BULLOCKS, LAMBS AND GOATS

  3. WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF YOUR SACRIFICES? ISAIAH 1:11-15 11 To what purpose is the multitude of your sacrifices to Me? says the LORD. I have had enough of burnt offerings of rams and the fat of fed cattle. I do not delight in the blood of bulls, or of lambs or goats. 12 When you come to appear before Me, who has required this from your hand, to trample My courts? 13 Bring no more futile sacrifices; incense is an abomination to Me. The New Moons, the Sabbaths, and the calling of assemblies-- I cannot endure iniquity and the sacred meeting. 14 Your New Moons and your appointed feasts my soul hates; they are a trouble to Me, I am weary of bearing them. 15 When you spread out your hands, I will hide My eyes from you; even though you make many prayers, I will not hear. Your hands are full of blood.

  4. WHAT ABOUT BURNT OFFERINGS AND SACRIFICES? JEREMIAH 7:22-24 22 I did not speak to your fathers, or command them in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, concerning burnt offerings or sacrifices. 23 I commanded them, saying Obey My voice, and I will be your God and you shall be My people. Walk in all the ways that I have commanded you that it may be well with you. 24 Yet they did not obey or incline their ear, but followed the counsels and the dictates of their evil hearts, and went backward and not forward. HOSEA 6:6 6 I desire mercy and not sacrifice, and the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings.

  5. WHO DOES THE LORD SEEK TO WORSHIP HIM? JOHN 4:20-24 20 Our fathers worshiped on this mountain and you Jews say that in Jerusalem is the place where one ought to worship. 21 Jesus said to her, Woman, believe Me, the hour is coming when you will neither on this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, worship the Father. 22 You worship what you do not know; we know what we worship, for salvation is of the Jews. 23 But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. 24 God is Spirit and those who worship Him MUST worship in spirit and truth.

  6. HAVE YOU CONSIDERED CHRIST JESUS? HEBREWS 3:1-3 1 Holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our confession, Christ Jesus, 2 Who was faithful to Him who appointed Him, as Moses also was faithful in all His house. 3 For this One has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as He who built the house has more honor than the house.

  7. WHAT IS THE SHADOW OF HEAVENLY THINGS? HEBREWS 8:1-6 1 This is the main point of the things we are saying: We have such a High Priest, who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens, 2 A Minister of the sanctuary and of the true tabernacle which the Lord erected and not man. 3 Every high priest is appointed to offer both gifts and sacrifices. Therefore it is necessary that this One also have something to offer. 4 If He were on earth, He would not be a priest, since there are priests who offer the gifts according to the law; 5 Who serve the copy and shadow of the heavenly things, as Moses was divinely instructed when he was about to make the tabernacle. For He said, See that you make all things according to the pattern shown you on the mountain. 6 But now He has obtained a more excellent ministry, inasmuch as He is also Mediator of a better covenant, which was established on better promises.

  8. WHAT WERE THE PATTERNS OF HEAVENLY THINGS HEBREWS 9:19-26 19 When Moses had spoken every precept to all the people according to the law, he took the blood of calves and goats, with water, scarlet wool, and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book itself and all the people, 20 Saying, This is the blood of the covenant which God has commanded you. 21 Likewise he sprinkled with blood both the tabernacle and all the vessels of the ministry. 22 According to the law almost all things are purified with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no remission.

  9. WHAT WERE THE PATTERNS OF HEAVENLY THINGS? HEBREWS 9:19-26 23 Therefore it was necessary that the copies of the things in the heavens should be purified with these, BUT the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these. 24 Christ has not entered the holy places made with hands, which are copies of the true, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us; 25 Not that He should offer Himself often, as the high priest enters the Most Holy Place every year with blood of another-- 26 He then would have had to suffer often since the foundation of the world; BUT NOW, once at the end of the ages, He has appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself.

  10. WHAT WAS A SHADOW OF GOOD THINGS TO COME? HEBREWS 10:1-4 1 The law, having a shadow of the good things to come, and NOT the very image of the things, can never with these same sacrifices, which they offer continually year by year, make those who approach perfect. 2 For then would they not have ceased to be offered? For the worshipers, once purified, would have had no more consciousness of sins. 3 But in those sacrifices there is a reminder of sins every year. 4 For it is NOT possible that the blood of bulls and goats could take away sins.

  11. WHAT DID GOD DESIRE? HOSEA 6:6 6 I desired mercy and not sacrifice. I desired the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings. MATTHEW 9:13 13 Go and learn what this means: I desire mercy and not sacrifice; For I did not come to call the righteous, BUT sinners, to repentance. WHAT KIND OF SACRIFICE DOES GOD WANT? ROMANS 12:1 1 I beseech you brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.

  12. WHY WAS THEIR WORSHIP VAIN? MATTHEW 15:7-9 7 Hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy about you, Saying: 8 These people draw near to Me with their mouth, and honor Me with their lips, BUT their heart is far from Me. 9 In vain they worship Me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.

  13. WHY WAS THEIR WORSHIP VAIN? MARK 7:5-9 5 The Pharisees and scribes asked Him, Why do Your disciples not walk according to the tradition of the elders, but eat bread with unwashed hands? 6 He said to them, Well did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written: This people honors Me with their lips, BUT their heart is far from Me. 7 In vain they worship Me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men. 8 For laying aside the commandment of God, you hold the tradition of men-- the washing of pitchers and cups, and many other such things you do. 9 He said to them, All too well you reject the commandment of God, that you may keep your tradition.

  14. WHAT IS THE LORD’S PASSOVER? MATTHEW 26:17-20 17 On the first day of the Feast of the Unleavened Bread the disciples came to Jesus, saying to Him, Where do You want us to prepare for You to eat the Passover? 18 He said, Go into the city to a certain man, and say to him, The Teacher says, My time is at hand; I will keep the Passover at your house with My disciples. 19 The disciples did as Jesus had directed them and they prepared the Passover. 20 When evening had come, He sat down with the Twelve. (LUKE 22:15 JOHN 13) 1 CORINTHIANS 5:7 7 Therefore purge out the old leaven, that you may be a new lump, since you truly are unleavened. For indeed Christ, our Passover, was sacrificed for us.

  15. WHAT DID JESUS SAY HE WOULD BUILD? MATTHEW 16:13-18 13 Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am? 14 So they said, Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets. 15 He said to them, But who do you say that I am? 16 Simon Peter said, You are the Christ, the Son of the living God. 17 Jesus said to him, Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. 18 I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.

  16. WHO DID JESUS SAY HE WOULD SEND? JOHN 16:7-14 7 I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you. 8 When He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: 9 Of sin, because they do not believe in Me; 10 Of righteousness, because I go to My Father and you see Me no more; 11 Of judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged.

  17. WHO DID JESUS SAY HE WOULD SEND? JOHN 16:7-14 12 I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. 13 However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. 14 He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you.

  18. WHAT WAS THE PROMISE OF THE FATHER? LUKE 24:49-53 49 Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; BUT tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high. 50 He led them out as far as Bethany. He lifted up His hands and blessed them. 51 It came to pass, while He blessed them, that He was parted from them and carried up into heaven. 52 They worshiped Him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy, 53 They were continually in the temple praising and blessing God. Amen.

  19. WHO SHALL BE BAPTIZED WITH THE HOLY GHOST? ACTS 1:2-5 2 Until the day in which Jesus was taken up, after He through the Holy Spirit had given commandments to the Apostles whom He had chosen, 3 To whom He also presented Himself alive after His suffering by many infallible proofs, being seen by them during forty days and speaking of the things pertaining to the Kingdom of God. 4 Being assembled with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, BUT to wait for the Promise of the Father, "which," He said, you have heard from Me; 5 John truly baptized with water, BUT you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.

  20. WHAT HAPPENED ON THE DAY OF PENTECOST? ACTS 2:1-4 1 When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. 2 Suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 There appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire. One sat on each of them. 4 They were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

  21. WHAT WAS SPOKEN BY THE PROPHET JOEL? ACTS 2:16-21 16 This is what was spoken by the prophet Joel: 17 It shall come to pass in the last days, says God, that I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your young men shall see visions, your old men shall dream dreams. 18 On My menservants and on My maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those days; and they shall prophesy. 19 I will show wonders in heaven above and signs in the earth beneath: blood and fire and vapor of smoke. 20 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the coming of the great and awesome day of the Lord. 21 It shall come to pass that whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.

  22. WHAT ABOUT THE SABBATH DAY? EXODUS 20:8 8 Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. THE SABBATH WAS MADE FOR MAN MARK 2:27 27 Jesus said, The Sabbath was made for man and Not man for the Sabbath. THE SON OF MAN IS LORD OF THE SABBATH MARK 2:28 28 The Son of man is Lord also of the Sabbath. (MATTHEW 12:8)

  23. WHAT ABOUT THE FIRST DAY OF THE WEEK? MATTHEW 28:1-7 1 After the Sabbath, as the first day of the week began to dawn, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to see the tomb. 2 Behold, there was a great earthquake; an angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat on it. 3 His countenance was like lightning and his clothing as white as snow. 4 The guards shook for fear of him, and became like dead men. 5 The angel said to the women Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. 6 He is not here. He is risen as He said. Come see the place where the Lord lay. 7 Go quickly and tell His disciples that He is risen from the dead, and indeed He is going before you into Galilee; there you will see Him. Behold, I have told you. (MARK 16:1-7 LUKE 24:1-6 JOHN 20:1-14)

  24. WHAT ABOUT THE FIRST DAY OF THE WEEK? JOHN 20:19-26 19 The same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst, and said to them, Peace be with you. 20 When He said this, He showed them His hands and His side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord. 21 Jesus said to them again, Peace to you! As the Father has sent Me, I also send you. 22 When He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, Receive the Holy Spirit.

  25. WHAT ABOUT THE FIRST DAY OF THE WEEK? JOHN 20:19-26 23 If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained. 24 Now Thomas, called the Twin, one of the Twelve, was not with them when Jesus came. 25 The other disciples therefore said to him, We have seen the Lord. So he said to them, Unless I see in His hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and put my hand into His side, I will not believe. 26 After eight days His disciples were again inside; Thomas with them. Jesus came, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace to you!

  26. WHAT ABOUT THE FIRST DAY OF THE WEEK? ACTS 20:7 7 On the first day of the week the disciples came together to break bread. Paul, ready to depart the next day, spoke to them and continued his message until midnight. (1 CORINTHIANS 11:23-28) 1 CORINTHIANS 16:1-2 1 Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I have given orders to the churches of Galatia, so you must do also: 2 On the first day of the week let each one of you lay something aside, storing up as he may prosper, that there be no collections when I come.

  27. WHY IS GOD NOT WORSHIPPED WITH MEN’S HANDS? ACTS 17:24-28 24 God, who made the world and everything in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands. 25 Nor is He worshiped with men's hands, as though He needed anything, since He gives to all life, breath, and all things. 26 He has made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, and has determined their pre-appointed times and the boundaries of their dwellings, 27 So that they should seek the Lord, in the hope that they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us; 28 For in Him we live and move and have our being, as also some of your own poets have said, For we are also His offspring.

  28. WHERE IS THE TEMPLE OF GOD TODAY? 1 CORINTHIANS 3:16 16 Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? 1 CORINTHIANS 6:19-20 19 Do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? 20 You were bought at a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's.

  29. HOW DO CHRISTIANS WORSHIP GOD? PHILIPPIANS 3:3 3 We are the circumcision, who worship God in the Spirit, rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh. WHO SHALL BOW AND CONFESS TO GOD? ROMANS 14:11-12 11 It is written: As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to Me, and every tongue shall confess to God. 12 So then each of us shall give account of himself to God.

  30. HOW SHOULD MEN SPEAK TODAY? 1 PETER 4:11 11 If anyone speaks, let him speak as the oracles of God. If anyone ministers, let him do it as with the ability which God supplies, that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.

  31. WHAT DID PAUL PREACH? 1 CORINTHIANS 2:4-8 4 My speech and my preaching was NOT with persuasive words of human wisdom, BUT in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, 5 That your faith should NOT be in the wisdom of men BUT in the power of God. 6 However, we speak wisdom among those who are mature, yet NOT the wisdom of this age, nor of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing. 7 But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God ordained before the ages for our glory, 8 Which none of the rulers of this age knew; for had they known, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.

  32. HOW SHOULD WE PRAISE GOD? ROMANS 15:8-9 8 I say that Jesus Christ has become a servant to the circumcision for the truth of God, to confirm the promises made to the fathers, 9 And that the Gentiles might glorify God for His mercy, as it is written: For this reason I will confess to You among the Gentiles, and sing to Your name. PSALMS 18:49 49 I will give thanks to You, O LORD, among the Gentiles, and sing praises to Your name.

  33. HOW SHOULD WE PRAISE GOD? HEBREWS 2:12 12 I will declare Your name to My brethren; in the midst of the assembly I will sing praise to You. I WILL SING WITH THE SPIRIT 1 CORINTHIANS 14:15 15 What is the conclusion then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will also pray with the understanding. I will sing with the spirit, and I will also sing with the understanding.

  34. WHAT SHOULD WE SING TO THE LORD? EPHESIANS 5:19 19 Speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, HOW SHOULD WE SING? COLOSSIANS 3:16 16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

  35. HOW SHOULD WE PRAY? MATTHEW 21:22 22 Whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive. 1 JOHN 3:22 Whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing in His sight. 1 JOHN 5:14-15 14 This is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. 15 We know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.

  36. HOW SHOULD WE PRAY? ACTS 2:42 42 They continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers. ACTS 6:4 4 We will give ourselves continually to prayer and to the ministry of the word. 1 CORINTHIANS 14:15 15 What is the conclusion then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will also pray with the understanding. I will sing with the spirit, and I will also sing with the understanding.

  37. WHO SHOULD WE PRAY FOR? 1 THESSALONIANS 1:2 2 We give thanks to God always for you all, making mention of you in our prayers. ROMANS 1:9 9 God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of his Son, that without ceasing I mention of you always in my prayers. EPHESIANS 1:16 16 I do not cease to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers.

  38. HOW DOES THE SPIRIT INTERCEDE FOR US? ROMANS 8:26 26 Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, BUT the Spirit makes intercession for us with groaning which cannot be uttered.

  39. HOW OFTEN SHOULD WE PRAY? ROMANS 12:12 12 Rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer. PRAYING ALWAYS FOR ALL SAINTS EPHESIANS 6:18 18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints-- PRAY WITHOUT CEASING 1 THESSALONIANS 5:17

  40. HOW SHOULD WE PRAY? PHILIPPAINS 1:9 9 This I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment. PHILIPPIANS 4:6 6 Be anxious for nothing, BUT in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.

  41. HOW DID PAUL PREACH? 1 CORINTHIANS 2:4-8 4 My speech and my preaching came NOT with enticing words of man's wisdom, BUT in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: 5 That your faith should NOT stand in the wisdom of men, BUT in the power of God. 6 Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect; yet NOT the wisdom of this world, or of the princes of this world, that come to nothing: 7 We speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory: 8 Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.

  42. WHO DID PAUL PRAY TO? EPHESIANS 3:14-15 14 I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, 15 Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named,

  43. WHAT DID PAUL PRAY FOR? EPHESIANS 3:16-21 16 That He would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by His Spirit in the inner man; 17 That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; 19 And to know the love of Christ, which passes knowledge, that you might be filled with all the fullness of God. 20 Now unto Him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, 21 Unto Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.

  44. WHAT IS “THE GREAT COMMANDMENT”? MATTHEW 22:36-40 36 Master, which is the Great Commandment in the Law? 37 Jesus said You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your mind. 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 The second is like unto it, You shall love your neighbor as yourself. 40 On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.

  45. WHICH IS THE FIRST COMMANDMENT? MARK 12:28-33 28 One of the scribes ….asked Jesus, which is the First Commandment of all? 29 Jesus answered, the First of all the Commandments is, Hear, O Israel; the Lord our God is one Lord: 30 You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind and with all your strength: this is the First Commandment. 31 The second is namely this: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. There is none other commandment greater than these. 32 The scribe said to him, well, Master, you have said the truth: for there is one God; and there is none other but he: 33 To love God with all the heart, with all the understanding, with all the soul and with all the strength and to love his neighbor as himself, is more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.

  46. WHAT IS TRUE WORSHIP? HEBREWS 10:24-25 24 Let us consider one another to provoke to love and to good works: 25 NOT forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is. BUT exhorting one another: and so much the more, as you see the day approaching. HEBREWS 11:6 6 Without faith it is impossible to please God. For he that comes to God MUST believe that He is. And that He rewards of them that diligently seek Him.

  47. WHAT IS WORSHIP? WHERE, WHEN AND HOW DO YOU WORSHIP GOD? WHAT IS YOUR PRIORITY IN WORSHIP? IS YOUR WORSHIP PLEASING TO GOD? DO YOU WORSHIP GOD IN SPIRIT AND IN TRUTH? WHAT HAS FAITH TO DO WITH WORSHIP? WHY DID GOD REJECT THE WORSHIP OF THE JEWS? WILL GOD REJECT YOUR WORSHIP?
