5. The following tips will help you take better pictures. Some tips for better pictures

Hold the camera still, as almost every picture will be sharper if you use a tripod. • Always set shutter speed at 1/60 second or faster. • Hold your elbows in firmly against your chest and the camera firmly against your forehead. • Stand still, legs slightly apart as you take your pictures. • Squeeze the release smoothly - don't stab at it. 8. Red-eye is caused by light reflected off the subject's retina, and, as a result, a trace of red appears in the eyes of your subject. • Activate red-eye setting on your camera. Eliminate Red-Eye

10. Lens Flare is produced when the camera lens is pointed toward a bright light source – the sun. • Zooming in on a subject can produce more lens flare. • Avoid taking pictures with your subject directly in front of the sun. Dealing with Lens Flare

12. It is about what you decide to put into your picture and what you decide to leave out. • Don’t be afraid to turn your camera on its side. • Try to naturally frame your subject. • When taking pics of landscapes, try including an object in the foreground. Think About Picture Composition

15. PS01: Creating a custom Graphic • You will design and create two custom web images. • These two images will become part of your PS portfolio. Once the lessons are complete, you will create a web page showcasing your PS projects. Photo Shop Portfolio

17. You are about to make a custom graphic. • Create a folder in My Documents > October. NOTE: You may already Have an October folder. • My Documents > October > (last name)(period)_PS01 ex: briggs02_PS01 • Using Google images, find two interesting pictures (JPEG’s only)that fit within the following two categories: motorcycle, a child, a barn, or a cruise ship. Find graphics under 500k. Save them in the folder you just created. Step One

23. Click Create • Click Greeting Card Set size at 5” X 7” Select layout as “1 Landscape” Select a theme Leave at “number of pages 1” Click OK

24. Drag your JPEG to the box above

25. Add text by choosing the text tool from the toolbox. You can also change the font style, size, and color. Choose a BG, frame, graphics , and shapes.

27. Once you’ve finished your custom graphic, you will save each graphic twice. • First as a PSD and then as a JPEG. • File name: PS01a and PS01b

28. First, remember you’re creating two custom graphics, so do your best work since they will be part of your portfolio. • When you save a graphic as a PSD, it allows you to open and edit in PS. Saving the graphic as a JPEG is perfect for printing or using as a web graphic once all editing is completed. Why save twice?
