Software Development Outcomes • U3O1 - In response to a design brief, produce documentation of the analysis of an information problem in the form of software requirements specifications. 40 marks. • Using Unified Modelling Language software to create use case diagrams Need to know: • Context diagrams • Data flow diagrams • System and organisational goals and objectives • Software Requirements Specifications (SRS)
Software Development • SD U3O2 - In response to software requirements specifications create a prototype solution to meet a specific need. 60 marks. • Using Visual Basic 2010 Express Need to Know: • Programming • Algorithms • Pseudocode • Data dictionaries • Test tables • Internal documentation
Software Development • U4O1 - A solution (including internal documentation) for use on a mobile device, which takes into account technical and legal requirements in response to a design brief. 45 marks • Documentation and an explanation of how security and legal matters are managed when creating solutions. Use a written report or a test. 15 marks Need to know: • Programming • Designing interfaces • Legal and ethical responsibilities • User documentation
Software Development • SD U4O2 - Recommend and justify strategies for evaluating the effectiveness and efficiency of solutions that operate in a networked environment. Format: a test. 40 marks Need to know: • System goals • Types of user documentation • Training • Security issues • Evaluation criteria and methods
So... • Only 2 outcomes are based on programming • Does give us time to build skills before U3O2 begins • Practise programming regularly • Great programming skill is not necessary: pretty basic functions will suffice, for example • Creating interfaces • Data input • Information output • Basic calculations • 1 dimensional arrays • Writing and reading data files • Debugging techniques
Exam • All outcomes contribute 50% to total score. • Exam is the other 50%. • 2 hours • All theory, no computers! • A = 20 multiple choice • B = 20 short answer • C = 60 case study questions
