  2. Newfoundland • Became a province on March 31st, 1949 • Joseph R. Smallwood (the leader that lead them into confederation) Newfoundland was the last province to join confederation in 1949.

  3. “Joey” Smallwood(Joseph) • Brought Newfoundland into Canada in 1949 • From 1949 till the day he died, "Joey" was affectionately known as the only living father of Confederation

  4. Facts • When Newfoundland joined Canada it was Britain's oldest colony but then became Canada's newest province. • Newfoundland entered Canadian Confederation in 1949 as the tenth Province, 450 years after being "discovered" by John Cabot. Silver Dollar
