Community Land Trusts…Established to further social, economic and environmental interests of a local community……managing land and assets;…benefit the local community;…asset lock;Profits solely to benefit the local community;Membership open to all who live or work in the specified area;Members control the Trust. www.clteast.org
Why do communities choose a CLT?Locally driven, controlled and democratically accountable. Respond to specific need at a very local levelCreate assets that are permanently affordable. How are CLTs Run Existing or new organisations. CLT controlled by members who elect board. Board is the steward of the asset. Typically director’s from 3 groups:Beneficiary community and future users; Non-local representatives with useful skills; Broader community / public interest stakeholders www.clteast.org
