  4. Materials Sliding Telescopic Rails Cold-Finished (Rolled) Steel C-1018 Joints Lumber Mattresses Bolts/Screws/Misc

  5. Materials: DTS-50 Telescopic GENERATOR SLIDE • - Made from cold rolled steel C45E+C • - Maximum load capacity: 150-410 kg • Desired distance: 2ft = 609.6mm • $69/kit http://gsfslides.com/en/products/slide-selector-results-details.asp?productid=120&productname=15.5030+DTS-50+Telescopic+GENERATOR+SLIDE Dimensions in mm

  6. Materials: Cold Rolled Steel C-1018 • Cold rolling increases the strength and hardness- Carbon steel with 0.18% carbon • Tensile Strength: 64,000 psi- Yield Point: 54,000 psi • Using Circular bars, 1” diameter- $10.62/ft- Need four bars of 67” in length http://www.metalsupermarkets.com/STEEL-COLDROLLED-GUIDE

  7. Materials: Joints &90 Degree Swivel - For the joints connected to the rails. Connects to the rail Steel bars - 90 degree swivel - For the fixed rotating joints that are not connected to the rails.- Made out on E-Nickel

  8. Materials: Lumber - Variety of soft woods to chose from- Need 250ft http://www.fpl.fs.fed.us/documnts/pdf1994/winan94a.pdf

  9. Materials: Twin Spring Mattresses • Springs provide support for the body • Springs allow air to flow through the mattress increasing its life span- Reversible, use both sides for long-lasting- $99/ea http://www.ikea.com/ca/en/catalog/products/30156599/

  10. Costs Price to manufacture would be cheaper as would be in mass quantities

  11. Regulations: Guardrails & Ladder http://www.cpsc.gov/businfo/regsumbunkbed.pdf Bunk beds must have two upper bunk rails The gap for the ladder cannot be greater than 15 inches. Top guardrails must be no less than 5 inches above the top of the mattress A 9 inch diameter rigid sphere cannot pass through any openings

  12. Guardrails & Ladder Our guardrails and ladder are detachable from our upper bunk bed for when the beds are in their double form.

  13. Design

  14. Design: Sliding Out

  15. Design: Sliding Out

  16. Force Analysis: C1018 Bars Maximum load = 300kg = 662 lbs Maximum normal stress = 842 psi Material yield point = 54,000 psi Allowable load before buckling = 981 lbs Allowable normal stress before buckling = 1500 psi
