CONSTRUCTION OF A SPEECH • Discussion – 80% • Background • Detail and/or Arguments • Future • Conclusion – 10% • Summarise • Declare your conclusion • Finish
GOOD SPEAKING • Know your subject – do not guess • Watch your body language • Use your eyes to control • Talk to your audience – not at them • Avoid controversial statements • Avoid politics • Laugh with the audience
GOOD SPEAKING • Look at your audience – not above them • Sufficient volume • Put some life into your voice • Emphasise with a slight pause • Use brief notes – do not read • Do not write your script on a slide
PRACTICAL EXERCISE • Think of a subject you know • Spend 10 minutes preparing brief notes • Introduction • Aim • Discussion • Conclusion • Speak for 3 to 5 minutes
