Engineering Dear Sir, These are the progress, 1) We had a meeting on 11th May and finalized the questionnaire (copy of the final version is attached) which is almost same as the one that you have sent us last Friday. However the order of the questions and some wordings have been revised. Also question 3.1 is included. 2) We have requested to get printed 250 copies. 3) This week mid semester examination is going on. The committee has decided not to get the feed back during the examination because student may not spend time during their exam to give their actual feedback. 4) The date for collecting the feedback is fixed on 19th May (Wednesday). Wednesday afternoons are always reserved for students activities in the timetable. Therefore it is possible to find free time for all the students at the same time. 5) Our committee has decided to give about 15-20 minutes explanation on the questionnairebefore we ask the students to give their feedback. Regards Pirapaharan

Medicine Update: The faculty committee met on 10th of May 2010 to discuss about the mode of data collection and to fine tune the questionnaires. It was decided to collect data from a sample of medical students (about 15 -20 students from each of the 5 batches - from Sinhalese students). Information and ideas from the academic staff members will be collected on issues that already exist in the faculty due to presence of different ethnic groups and on promoting ethnic cohesion at faculty and national level. This will be done using questionnaire which is designed for academic staff members. This data will be collected during the week that begin on 17th of May. Data from 15 Muslim students (out of the total of 25 Muslim students) have already been collected using two focus group discussions. Information from the deputy proctor, Dean, Security inspector, Deputy senior student counselor and the sub-wardens have already been collected by interviewing them. This was to find out whether there is/was any clash between students due to their ethnicity or religion. Dr. SampathGunawardenaChairperson/Ethnic Cohesion Committee Faculty of Medicine
