  2. 1. Plug the flash drive into an available USB port on your laptop 2. Open the “My Computer” icon on your desktop or in the start menu.

  3. 3. The Flash drive should show up under removable storage, make a note of the name and drive letter: 4. Here, the flash drive is listed as “FLASH DRIVE” with drive letter D: (yours WILL be different) 5. Remember to make note of the drive letter and close the “My Computer” window

  4. 6. Open the “My Documents” icon on your desktop or in the start menu 7. Highlight the files you want to backup to your flash drive. There are multiple ways of doing this: a. Select All – Click “Edit” and “Select All” – This is the easiest way to copy everything, but only use this method if you are sure that everything will fit on your flash drive. If you have a lot of large files like pictures, music or video, you may need to pick and choose which files you backup. b. Select a Group of Files – Click on the first file or folder in a group, hold down the Shift key and click on the last file or folder in the group. Release the Shift key. All files or folders in between will be selected. c. Select Specific Files – Click on the first file or folder you want to select, hold down the Control (Ctrl) key and click on each file or folder you want to select. When finished selecting all of your files you can release the Ctrl key.

  5. 8. Once your files or folders are highlighted/ selected click on “edit” and “Copy to Folder” 9. The following window will open:

  6. 10. Click on the drive found in Step 4, on this computer it is “Flash Drive (D:)” 11. Click the “Copy” button 12. The selected files will copy to your flash drive

  8. 1. Open the “My Computer” icon on your desktop or in the start menu. 2. Double-click on the flash drive 3. You should see the files and folders that you copied. Verify files have been copied to your flash drive
