  1. Thinking Outside the Box: How to Build Coalitions Beyond the Usual Suspects @AAUWPolicy

  2. Building Coalitions: We Can’t Do it Alone .

  3. Building Coalitions: It’s a Strategy! Who do we need? & What do we need to do to win? .

  4. Our goal is to… … think outside the box!

  5. So, how do we do that?

  6. Ask current allies • What organizations do they work with? • What other organizations do they know of that are active locally? • What other organizations do your fellow AAUW members belong to? • What other organizations do YOU belong to?

  7. Think about all the stakeholders • Look at the issue from all the different angles: • Who benefits from what you are trying to achieve? • Who would it affect?

  8. Think about it in reverse • What organizations are opposed to your chosen priority issue? • Then ask yourself: What organization is a counter to that organization?

  9. And a few more tips for the road… • Contact AAUW staff • Google it! • If you’ve got some time… check out our workshop on power mapping

  10. Brainstorm time! Midterm election is Tuesday, November 4, 2014 (save the date! write it down!)

  11. So, who will be in your GOTV coalition? • Ask current allies • Think about all the different stakeholders • Think about it in reverse • Contact AAUW national staff • Google it If you already have a coalition in place: What races will you focus on for voter education? Who will you target for voter registration?
