(a) La proteina MreB, omologa dell’actina, forma filamenti a spirale all’interno della cellula, contribuendo a determinare la morfologia cellulare e, presumibilmente, alla migrazione dei cromosomi verso i poli opposti della cellula. (b) La proteina FtsZ, simile alla tubulina, si assembla in corrispondenza della regione centrale della cellula, formando un anello Z, essenziale per la formazione del setto. MinCD, insieme ad altre proteine Min, oscilla da un polo all’altro, impedendo la formazione di un anello Z in una regione distante dal centro della cellula. (Da: Prescott 7e, 2009)
