  1. Aim #4: Lord of the Flies Analysis • Does the government that Ralph establishes on the island rely more on the ideas of John Locke or Thomas Hobbes? In your response, discuss the ideas of both thinkers and use specific information and examples from the movie to support your response.

  2. Lord of the Flies Analysis • Which factor do you think was MOST significant in bringing about the failure of Ralph’s government? Justify your answer with specific information and examples from the movie: • The poor leadership and decisions of Ralph and Piggy • The charisma and leadership ability of Jack • The evils of human nature (the “beast” within all of us)

  3. Lord of the Flies Analysis • “There is no question that throughout the story Jack proved himself to be the more effective leader. Ralph’s goal of establishing a democracy was not realistic, and he was too concerned with being rescued, a goal that he himself had no control over reaching. Jack demonstrated strong leadership by providing for the immediate needs of the population: food, shelter and entertainment. The idea of the beast allowed the boys to fuel their energy into a silly but harmless cause.” Do you agree with this quote? Why or why not?
