  5. Realising our potential • Supports a state-wide and cohesive network of public libraries and Indigenous Knowledge Centres through 4 Objectives: • Realising our potential • Deeply local outcomes • Extending our reach • Future focused workforce

  7. Townsville: Weathering disaster • Active role in community post-floods • Provided a safe space, technology access • Partnered with support agencies, such as emergency services • Collected community stories to add to local collections

  8. Moreton Bay: Building digital inclusion • Building digital inclusion and literacy • Attracting new and diverse audiences • Supported services for vision impaired • Staff also trained on how to use technology

  9. Albany Creek: Deeply local refurb • Renovation reflected the uniqueness of Albany Creek • Community feedback was considered in the design along workshops with senior library staff • Offers a welcoming space to connect with the local community and environment

  10. Hope Vale IKC: preserving local language • Working to promote and preserve local languages. • History, language and culture are also shared through weekly radio sessions, and classes • Safeguarding language for future generations

  11. Logan: literacy on the road • Delivering First 5 Forever in popular community settings – playgroups. Community centres and even McDonalds! • Engaged with approximately 17,000 participants who may not have otherwise benefited

  12. Rockhampton: steampunk and pop culture • CapriCon showcased library as community heart of the city • Library leveraged existing networks to help deliver workshops and promote the event • Challenged expectation and assumptions about the role of libraries

Longreach: technology for the town • Bringing virtual reality (VR) and robots to the outback • Partnered with Council through annual program of activities • Technology used by School of Distance education • Helps remote community fully participate in digital world • Staff also were trained on how to use the technology, then trained community members

  14. Brisbane: YPLG Conference • Knowledge sharing and working with peers across state • Sharing of best practice and project ideas for programs including First 5 Forever and Summer Reading Club

The Vision • Is a model for future possibilities • Is linked to the direction public libraries are heading globally • Was developed in consultation with the state-wide network • Articulates a shared vision for the future of Queensland public libraries and Indigenous Knowledge Centres (IKCs) in Queensland, through 4 Objectives and 10 Enablers. • Is supported by State Library through grants, professional development and resources • There are many examples state-wide of libraries working to realise their potential!
