Why a new plan? The land-use plan will be customized to the new standardized drawing regulations for land-use plans at Svalbard. 2014 Give public notice that planning is about to begin Work out a planning programme Prepare a draft plan Draft plan deposited for public inspection 2015 Submit the finalized plan proposal to the Governor The Governor approves the plan – Spring 2015 The process

We need inputs from the research community to be able to include all the different aspects that need to be taken care of in the plan. • Comments about activities that will make use of new land or changed use of land. • We appreciate inputs as early as possible. • The working language for the overall planning process will be Norwegian. • Information needed for the international scientific community to make comments to the draft plan will be provided in English. • When the land-use plan is approved by the Norwegian authorities the plan will be translated into English.
