  1. Model Editing James Martin High SchoolComputer Multimedia and AnimationInstructor: G. Patton From: CHAPTER 5 – 3DS MAX AND ITS APPLICATIONS

  2. 1. What is the difference between Undo and Hold? • The Undofunction allows you to step back through previous commands, one step at a time, until you reach the limit. • The Holdfunction saves the scene at a particular point for later recall.

  3. 2. What is the difference between Redo and Fetch? • The Redo function allows you to reverse an undone action. • The Fetch function allows you to restore a saved version of a file created with the Hold function.

  4. 3. What are three ways to select an object? • An object can be selected by: • picking on it with the cursor. • picking name • picking color.

  5. 4. Which selection method uses the currently selected button in the Selection Region flyout? • Selecting objects with the cursor.

  6. 5. Which button in the Selection Region flyout allows you to draw an irregular window? • The Fence Selection Region button.

  7. 6. What is the keyboard shortcut to the Select Object dialog box? • [H]

  8. 7. Why would you turn off the Assign Random Color feature? Turning off the Assign Random Colors feature enables you to: • assign colors manually and • make the “select by color” feature useful.

  9. 8. A transform is any change made to what aspects of an object? • Position • Rotation • Scale

  10. 9. What aspects of an object does a modifier change? • Form • Shape

  11. 10. How many modifiers can an object have in any given frame? • An object can have an unlimited number of modifiers applied to it.

  12. 11. What is the maximum number of move transforms can be applied to an object in any given frame? • In any given frame, an object can have only one set of move transforms.

  13. 12. What are the names of the two basic types of modifiers? • object space modifiers • world space modifiers

  14. 13. What is used to manage the modifiers placed on an object? • The Modifier Stack stores all modifiers applied to an object in the order in which they are applied.

  15. 14. What does collapsing the stack do? Collapsing the stack: • applies all parameters and modifiers • creates a mesh object. After this is done, the parameters and modifiers can no longer be changed. This simplifies the model and can save system resources.

  16. 15. What is a Gizmo? • A gizmo is a wireframe object surrounding an object when a modifier is applied to that object. Transformations applied to the gizmo alter the effects of the modifier.

  17. 16. What are the two ways to restrict cursor movement? You can restrict cursor movement by: • using the “restrict” buttons on the Axis Constraints toolbar • using the transform gizmo.

  18. 17. What are the buttons in the Transform Center flyout used for? • They are used to determine the center point for rotation and scale transforms.

  19. 18. What is sub-object mode used for? Sub-object mode is used for: • editing shapes and objects at the sub-object level. • Activating sub-object mode allows you to select the individual components of an object.

  20. 19. How do you enter sub-objects found in a spline? • Select the object or shape to be edited, and then open the Modify tab. • In the modifier stack, select the item you want to edit at the sub-object level and pick the plus symbol next to the item name to display the sub-object tree. • Finally, pick a sub-object in the tree.

  21. 19. How do you enter sub-objects found in a spline? Also by: • picking the appropriate “level” button at the top of the Selection rollout, • by right-clicking on the object in a viewport and selecting Sub-objects, and then the element in the quad menu.

  22. 20. What are the names of the sub-objects found in a spline? • Vertices • Segments • splines

  23. 21. Which tool allows you to place copies of an object equally spaced along a spline? • The Spacing tool.

  24. 22. What is the purpose of the Mirror command? • Mirror command is used to mirror objects about a centerline.

  25. 23. What do the settings in the Array Transformation area of the Array dialog box define? • The settings in the Array Transformation area are used to define the first row in an array.

  26. 24. What do the settings in the Array Dimensions area of the Array dialog box define? • The settings in the Array Dimensions area are used to define: • the shape • the plane, and • the volume of the array.
