Points to Emphasize (1) • Choosing Courses Online: Computer software can handle routine situations. If what you need is NOT routine, be sure to check with Academic Affairs/your department office. • Graduation Requirements: Requirements are established by faculty committees in your department according to university regulations. A professor CANNOT change or waive the requirements on his own. • Choosing Courses at Other Universities: See 2014 International Student Handbook
Points to Emphasize (2) Taking Care of Your Health: • On-Campus Health Clinic: See International Student Handbook • After-Hours Health Emergencies: Dormitory Management Center is staffed 24/7 and can arrange to have students taken to a doctor when the Health Clinic is not open. • NHI Card: See instructions in Student Handbook on how to use it.
Points to Emphasize (3) Dorms and Dining: • No Cooking Allowed in Dorm Rooms!! (Why??!?) • Small kitchen available behind Dorm Management Center • Special Food Needs: Halal and vegetarian food is provided in the NTUST cafeterias. If you have other special food needs, please contact the OIA. We can arrange for a guide to explain ingredients in food available in the cafeteria, so you will know what you can eat and what you should avoid. • Housing for Students with Families: Must live off-campus, but the university can assist in finding housing.
Points to Emphasize (4) • Using Library Resources at Other Universities: See International Student Handbook • E-Resources at NTUST Library: Our library subscribes to many international professional and scientific databases to aid you in your research. Please go to the Library’s English website and click on “E-Resources.”
Points to Emphasize (5) • University Internet Resources: See International Student Handbook. Also Note: Illegal downloading of any kind is forbidden! • Taipei City Free Wireless Network: For info on how to sign up and use this network, please see International Student Handbook.
Working in Taiwan After Graduation • The Taiwan government strongly encourages international students to consider looking for a job in Taiwan after they graduate. • Taiwan Tech’s Job Fair in March has such opportunities available. • The OIA also sends notifications of job openings from local companies to our international students. • If you hope to work in Taiwan, it is best to LEARN MANDARIN!!
The OIA staff (IB-402) and Dr. Lloyd (IB-407-2) are always glad to answer questions and help you with any problems!! Remember!!!
