  2. Objectives • Configure a router with an initial configuration. • Use Cisco SDM to configure a Cisco ISR with LAN connectivity, Internet connectivity and basic NAT • Configure a Cisco router for LAN connectivity, Internet connectivity and NAT using the Cisco IOS CLI of the Cisco IOS software • Configure a WAN connection from a customer premise to an ISP. • Describe, setup and configure a stand-alone LAN switch

  3. Configure a New ISR • Identify the key components on a Cisco ISR

  4. Cisco IOS Software • Identify common software image features

  5. Configure a New ISR • Describe the procedures to physically set up a new Cisco ISR

  6. Configure a New ISR • Describe the ways a Cisco ISR can be configured

  7. Configure a New ISR • Document the configuration of a router with a checklist

  8. Using Cisco SDM to configure a Cisco ISR • Describe and perform the steps used to configure LAN and Internet connections on a Cisco ISR using Cisco SDM.

  9. Using Cisco SDM to configure a Cisco ISR • Configure dynamic NAT using Cisco SDM

  10. Configure a Cisco router using the Cisco IOS CLI • Describe the role of the CLI in the Cisco IOS and different modes

  11. Configure a Cisco router using the Cisco IOS CLI • Describe what router configuration information the Cisco IOS CLI show commands provide

  12. Configure a Cisco router using the Cisco IOS CLI • Navigate the Cisco IOS CLI and perform basic setup configuration.

  13. Configure a Cisco router using the Cisco IOS CLI • Configure serial and Ethernet interfaces on a router

  14. Configure a Cisco router using the Cisco IOS CLI • Configure a default route for the Cisco router

  15. Configure a Cisco router using the Cisco IOS CLI • Describe the steps to configure a Cisco router as a DHCP Server

  16. Configure a Cisco router using the Cisco IOS CLI • Configure static NAT on a Cisco router using Cisco IOS CLI

  17. Backing up a Router Configuration • Perform backup and system restore using a TFTP server

  18. Initial Cisco 2960 Switch Configuration • Identify the key components on a Cisco Catalyst 2960 Series Switch

  19. Initial Cisco 2960 Switch Configuration • Perform basic physical set up of a stand-alone LAN switch

  20. Initial Cisco 2960 Switch Configuration • Describe how a switch can be managed using a management network interface (VLAN1)

  21. Initial Cisco 2960 Switch Configuration • Connect the stand-alone LAN switch to the router and verify connectivity

  22. Connecting the CPE to the ISP • Describe the steps to install Customer Premise Equipment (CPE) • Describe necessary installation documentation

  23. Workplace Safety • Describe good safety practices when installing network equipment

  24. Connecting the CPE to the ISP • Describe the range of customer connections over a WAN

  25. Connecting the CPE to the ISP • Describe the business and technical justifications for selecting a specific type of WAN

  26. Connecting the CPE to the ISP • Describe the steps to configure a Cisco ISR using SSH

  27. Connecting the CPE to the ISP • Describe the procedure for configuring a WAN connection between two routers

  28. Summary • The Integrated Services Router (ISR) is a good choice for small to medium businesses and ISP-managed customers. • ISRs can be initially configured using SDM or the router IOS CLI. • When using the CLI, “show” commands verify configuration elements. • Switches are assigned IP addresses by configuring them on the management interface, VLAN 1. • An installation plan can minimize disruption to a network when new devices are being added. • Good safety practices must be following when performing installations, to minimize the danger to both technician and device. • Documentation is necessary, both when configuring and when installing network devices.
