Academic or Applied? Changes to levels should be done in consultation with (that means talking with) grade 9 teachers and your parents and maybe even your guidance counsellors. If you choose to change levels, you need to think about the impact of that decision for the options down the road.
Are You In the Right Level? Much easier to be in class when you are properly placed and where you can be successful and challenged. Before making a change, ask yourself, Am I actually capable of being successful at this level? Did I really make the effort that is needed to be successful?
Compulsories – Special Notes Switching from Applied Grade 9 to Academic Grade 10 is allowed in English, Science and French only. Ask yourself: Did I do extremely well in the applied level? Am I willing to put in the extra time and effort it will take to work in the academic level? Have I talked with my grade 9 teacher and what does he or she think about this idea? Are my parents in support of this change?
Compulsories – Special Notes Math does not allow for a direct transition from the Applied to the Academic level. There is a half credit transition course that is available but very difficult to access – check out Summer School for this. Some students who really want to move into the academic stream in math will, after completing 1P, go on to do 1D and then move onto 2D.
Electives – Special Notes 3 spots open for elective courses. Can take more than one per department. Grade 10 Visual Art, Dance, Drama, Guitar, and all Tech courses, do not require a Grade 9 prereq course. ADD2O (Production Drama) or ADA3O (Creative Drama) are the drama options available to students who have passed ADA1O.
Electives – Special Notes Phys. Ed. has several options – may take more than one per grade – must have different first 3 letters of code. Remember that there are costs involved with some courses – PAD, ATC (need special shoes). Interested in AWQ3M (Photography) – MUST have grade 9 or 10 visual arts.
French Program Immersion Certificate Four courses in French Immersion (FIF). Six courses in other subjects taught in French. * In a French placement
Choose Your Courses Wisely Check diploma requirements. Look into post-secondary prerequisites. Determine your interests. Evaluate your abilities. Talk to others (friends, teachers, parents). Tentatively plan grade 11 and 12 courses. See your Guidance Counsellor.

Why is your choice so important on the option sheet? School’s master timetable is built around the numbers given to us on the option sheets. Number of sections that we offer is based on the number of students choosing that course. Low enrolment in a course may result in it being cancelled. Spaces may not be available, if a course change is requested.
