  2. Introduction BRAC is to change systems of inequality. We act as a catalyst, creating platforms for people to realize their potentials. BRAC is the pioneers of the Global Graduation approach, and are working towards eliminating ultra-poverty completely from Bangladesh by 2030.

Strategic Priority of BRAC for Livelihood & Economic Empowerment of the urban poor Ensuring livelihood, skills and entrepreneurship development for people living in urban poverty Objectives: Promoting pro-poor urban development through access to livelihood (skills, employment and entrepreneurship development) for the people living in urban poverty

  4. BRAC for Urban Development • 50% of Bangladesh’s population will be living in urban areas by 2050. Twenty millions people are currently living in urban informal settlements. • We deliver customized, affordable and quality basic services to people living in urban poverty (1 million) and link them with government and non-government services.

  5. BRAC Urban Development Programme (UDP) Our Approach: • Grants support/philanthropy: Grants as a form of livelihoods/income generating assets • Cost sharing: Cost sharing method is applying between beneficiaries and BRAC.

  6. Cost recovery: Cost recovery is applying in large-scale schemes /interventions like established the production center or group enterprise development. Loan: Established linkage with BRAC Microfinance and other financial institutions

  7. BRAC UDP…..cont • Financial inclusion: Direct access to convenient, formal or informal access to financial services for the urban poor. • Mobile Banking: bKash • DPS for changing savings behavior especially for EP & RMG workers • Micro Health Insurance • Awareness on Financial literacy

Financial package or product of BRAC Progoti Progoti is financial product of BRAC which is simple that avail by the urban poor and provide greater flexibility for entrepreneurs to expand their business. Dabi Dabiis financial product of BRAC for low-income women to buy productive assets, invest in business or property

  9. Financial inclusion………Cont.. Migration Loans (ProbashBandhu)is financial product of BRAC for youth seeking employment abroad Agriculture Loan (Poultry and Livestock) is financial product of BRAC exclusively for farming and increase their income

Ultra Poor Graduation Programme The Targeted Ultra-Poor (TUP) programme are the pioneers of the Graduation Approach, a globally recognized model for its innovative and holistic solution to ultra-poverty. The intervention aim to enable extreme and ultra-poor households to achieve key milestones towards sustainable livelihoods and socio-economic resilience, in order to progress along a pathway out of extreme poverty.

  11. Market linkages and Promotion Aarongis one of the country's largest lifestyle retail chains in Bangladesh. About 65,000 artisans across Bangladesh through a vast network of rural and Urban production centers and independent producers.

  12. Market linkages and Promotion..Cont… BRAC Dairy is the third largest milk processor in Bangladesh, with operations spanning the entire dairy value chain. Over 50,000 urban and rural producers providing a wide variety of high quality dairy products.

  13. Market linkages and Promotion….Cont.. BRAC Chicken operates one of the largest automated poultry processing plants in Bangladesh. Supplies high quality dressed chicken and value-added frozen food products to a range of clients and retailers.

  14. Skill Development and Job Placement Formal (TVET) & NTVQF (level-1) and non-formation skill-based training for employment generation and entrepreneurship development training among the urban poor people especially women and disadvantaged groups with the private sector involvement and created an opportunity for job placement with the partnership.

  15. Skill Development and Job Placement…Cont… Apprenticeshipsupports in informal sectors. Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) services, compliment the government to create assessors and other professionals which the sector lacks, offer training courses for in country and overseas employment.
