National Interoperability Information Exchange

1. Overview The National Public Safety Telecommunications Council (NPSTC) is a federation of 15 organizations whose mission is to improve public safety communications and interoperability through collaborative leadership (www.NSPTC.org) NSPTC provides the web-based, secure NIIX service (www.NIIX.org) to assist the public safety community in the development and sharing of statewide communications interoperability plans and other interoperable communications-related documentation. 2. What is NIIX? Centralized access to peer-supplied documents, including various plans, agreements, governance, policy, legislation, SOPs, funding and other useful documents Ability for members to submit documents to a national repository for sharing with peers Security and authentication ensures that only members with appropriate authorization have access to sensitive documents Contact list of other NIIX community members Calendar and event announcements

5. Communities One of the useful collaborative features of NIIX is the ability for members to associate themselves into communities. You can also get a list of all the Communities that are on the NIIX site by clicking on the right hand side of the page above the national map.

6. Communities This is the Four Corners Community Home page. Every member of the Community sees this page, complete with calendar, announcements, and documents. Email notifications may be sent to the Community with a document upload or as an individual message.

7. Communities This is how Hawaii has set up their SCIP Community. They currently have 134 documents that they are sharing among 58 Community members.

8. Categories Users are able to Access Documents Via Categories. These Categories, which are similar to folders, can be organized in a way that users will be able to drill-down to the appropriate file.

9. Document Listing The Documents List shows all the documents that are found within a community. This list can be sorted by any of the column headers that are in blue. If a users wants to only view documents from one category that category can be selected on the left navigation bar.

10. Comments Clicking on “Comments” will bring up the list of comments that have already been entered for that document or will be blank if no comments have yet been entered. Once a Coordinator has posted a document to the Community, any member of the Community can make comments regarding that document. To add a comment, you simply begin typing in the Comment box.
