  2. Citing Quotes – Shakespeare • Romeo and Juliet • Write the title of the work and the location of the quotation in parentheses after each quote. • Format: (Play. Act number. Scene number. Verse numbers). • For example, if you are using text from Act 3, Scene 1 of Romeo & Juliet, this information should be formatted: (Romeo & Juliet. 3.1.22-23). • When referring to the title of the play make sure to italicize.

Citing Quotes - Lyrics • Musical lyrics are cited like a lyrical poem. • In musical quotes less than four lines, put a slash (/) between the lines to mark the line break: • Example: “We were both young when I first saw you/I close my eyes”(1-2). • Before the quote you have to say the artist’s name. • In musical quotes four lines or longer, block quote by indenting ten spaces from the left. Use a separate line for each line of the song. • Do not double space a block quote from lyrics. Make the block quote (in terms of spacing, etc.) look as much like the song as possible. • Use line numbers from the lyrics instead of page numbers to identify the quote.
