  6. DISCUSSION GUIDE DISCUSSION GUIDE 1. For what did Paul have a hard time thanking God enough? (1 Thessalonians 3:9) Paul said that he had a hard time thanking God enough for the joy that he received because of the believers in Thessalonica.

  7. DISCUSSION GUIDE DISCUSSION GUIDE 2. Have you ever been so thankful for something or someone that you had a hard time expressing the extent of your thanks to God? What was that something or someone?

  8. DISCUSSION GUIDE DISCUSSION GUIDE 3. In verse 10 Paul tells the believers that he is asking God for two specific things. What are they? (1 Thessalonians 3:10) Paul said that he was asking God: • For the opportunity to see the Christians in Thessalonica again • For the chance to supply what was lacking in their faith

  9. DISCUSSION GUIDE DISCUSSION GUIDE 4. What words does Paul use to characterize his prayer? (1 Thessalonians 3:10) Paul says that he prays night and day. He also says that he prays “most earnestly.”

  10. DISCUSSION GUIDE DISCUSSION GUIDE 5. How would you feel if someone told you that they were praying most earnestly for you, every hour of every day? How would that affect your life?

  11. DISCUSSION GUIDE DISCUSSION GUIDE 6. In verses 11-13 Paul quotes for the believers the very text of his prayer. For what three things does Paul ask God? (1 Thessalonians 3:11-13) Paul asks God to: • Clear the way for Paul to return to Thessalonica • Increase the believers’ love for one another and for non-believers • Strengthen the hearts of the believers so that they would be blameless and holy

  12. DISCUSSION GUIDE DISCUSSION GUIDE 7. How would our class change if our love for one another “increased and overflowed?”

  13. DISCUSSION GUIDE DISCUSSION GUIDE 8. What would be different in our lives if our love for everyone else “increased and overflowed?”

  14. DISCUSSION GUIDE DISCUSSION GUIDE 9. What might happen to cause our hearts to be strengthened?

  15. DISCUSSION GUIDE DISCUSSION GUIDE 10. Paul asked God to strengthen the hearts of believers. Do we have any responsibility to strengthen our hearts? How would we go about doing that?

  16. DISCUSSION GUIDE DISCUSSION GUIDE 11. At what point in time does Paul want the believers to be blameless and holy? (1 Thessalonians 3:13) Paul prays that the believers would be blameless and holy when Jesus returns with his holy ones.

  17. DISCUSSION GUIDE DISCUSSION GUIDE 12. Are you blameless and holy now? What are some practical things that you could do to work toward the goal of being blameless and holy?
