  2. Hayao Miyazaki • January 5, 1941 in Tokyo, Japan • prominent filmmaker of many popular animated feature films. • Co-founder of Studio Ghibli • used traditional animation throughout the animation process

  3. Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind 1984 film • written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki, • based on his manga of the same name • The story takes place 1,000 years after the "Seven Days of Fire", an event which destroyed human civilization and most of the Earth's original ecosystem. • The main protagonist, Nausicaä, is a charismatic young princess of the peaceful Valley of the Wind.

  4. Laputa: Castle in the Sky, 1986 film • First film created and released by Studio Ghibli • According to legend, humans were fascinated with the sky; therefore they created increasingly sophisticated ways of lifting aircraft from the ground. • This eventually led to flying cities and fortresses. Over time, the cities came crashing back to the ground, forcing the survivors to live on the ground as before. • While most people consider it to be fictional, some believe the legend is true and have sought to find the ancient city. Airships still remain in common use.

  6. Kiki's Delivery Service,1989 film • fifth Studio Ghibli anime film • Kiki is a 13-year-old witch-in-training, living in a small rural village. • The film opens at the time traditional for Kiki to leave her home to spend a year alone in a new town to establish herself as a full witch.

  7. PorcoRosso,1992 film • sixth anime film by Hayao Miyazaki, • About an Italian World War I fighter ace, now living as a freelance bounty hunter chasing "air pirates" in the Adriatic Sea. • The man has been cursed, and has been transformed into a pig.

  8. Princess Mononoke,1997 film • It is a period drama set specifically in the late Muromachi period of Japan • Concentrates on the struggle between the supernatural guardians of a forest and the humans who consume its resources

  9. Spirited Away,2001 film • The film sees a sullen ten-year-old girl in the middle of her family's move to the suburbs • wander into a world ruled by gods, witches, and monsters; where humans are changed into animals; and a bathhouse for these creatures.

  10. Howl's Moving Castle,2004 Film • based on Diana Wynne Jones' novel of the same name • Eighteen-year-old Sophie, who runs her late father's hat shop, has a chance encounter with the mysterious wizard Howl who takes a liking to her.

  11. Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea,2008 film • Miyazaki's tenth film for Ghibli • The plot centers on a baby fish/mermaid in the sea named Ponyo who becomes a human girl. In pursuing her goal, she befriends a five-year-old human boy, Sōsuke.

  12. My Neighbors The Yamadas1997 Film • anime film directed by Isao Takahata and released by Studio Ghibli • The movie is a family comedy that is presented in a comic strip style which is unusual since all the other Studio Ghibli movies are presented in the anime style.

Pompoko1994 Film • eighth written and directed by Isao Takahata and animated by Studio Ghibli • Consistent with Japanese folklore, the Tanuki are portrayed as a highly sociable, mischievous species, able to use "illusion science" to transform into almost anything, but too fun-loving and too fond of tasty treats to be a real threat
