1. West Midlands National ApprenticeshipService - Overview The National Apprenticeship Service (NAS), announced earlier this year, will be established in April 2009. This new service will work closely with colleges and training providers delivering Apprenticeships, as well as with key stakeholders including Business Link, Brokerage, Job Centre Plus, Connexions and local authorities, and with employers themselves.
Its purpose is to create a seamless end to end support mechanism for both employers who wish to offer Apprenticeship places and learners who wish to become an apprentice.
The service will drive forward the Governments ambition for a renaissance in Apprenticeships, which will see a significant growth in the number of employers offering Apprenticeships and provide sufficient opportunities to enable one in every five young people to take up an Apprenticeship place.
There are four elements to the National Apprenticeship Service which will provide an end to end service for Apprenticeships: Employer Services; Learner Services; and a web-based Vacancy Matching System.
