You are the coach. Now what? • Get Stunt Certified • www.wscca.com/CheerConferences.html • Required by ALL coaches who want to stunt at any time • Focuses on stunting fundamentals, technique, timing, drills, perfection before progression • Fulfill Other District Requirements • CPR/First Aid • ACCAA if applicable • Meet with Former Coach or Other District Admin • Program History • Expectations of the Coach • Limitations if any
Before the Season Starts • Put together a Program Guide and/or a Tryout Packet • Outline the following • Grade Requirements • Time Commitments • Financial Commitments • Behavior Expectations • Have clear, well defined policies in place before tryouts
Tryouts • Setting Up Tryouts • Initial Tryout Meeting for Parents and Students • Paperwork Needed • Number of Clinic Days • What material will be taught • Final Judging • Using a panel vs. coach pick • Announcing Results • Deciding number of teams • Varsity, JV, C vs. Colors
Picking Student Leadership • Captains, Co-Captains, Squad Leaders • How do you want to set up your leadership staff? • How will you select captains? Game Time • Cheering for Football, Basketball, Wrestling • Getting the crowd involved • Supporting Other Sports • Cross Country, Soccer, Swimming, Gymnastics, Track, Baseball, Softball • Half Time and Assembly Performances • Creating School Spirit • Weekly Themes • Game Night Themes • Posters, Spirit Item Give Away • Working with the Community • Crowd Involvement • Planning Homecoming • Spreading the Spirit
