  3. The site used to be a fortified Tongan settlement called“Kolonui”and the whole fortress is surrounded by a strong defensive wallbuiltfrom basalt with several entrances.

  4. Inside the fort there are a few preserved buildings and structures, lawns, and the central, elevated platform called“Talietumu”.

  5. The oblong-shapedplatformis set upon a circularfortified base .

  6. The fort was builtaround 1450 during the expansion of the Tu’iToga Empire and it was the last holdout of the Tongans on Uveauntiltheyweredefeated.

  7. Despite its small size, Wallis offers a wide variety of natural sites. Today the ruins of the fortress are a popular tourist attraction because the Tongan Fort is part of Wallisianheritage.
