Confidentiality • Sharing any client’s information with a third party is not allowed unless there is a written consent provided by parent/legal guardian. • Breaches of confidentiality: Cases of intentional harm such as threats Cases of unintentional harm such as neglect
Maintain professional standards • Maintain professional appearance • Treat everyone with dignity & respect • Protect health and safety of client • Protect the client’s right to choose
Informed Consent • Three Tests must be met before informed consent can be considered valid: 1. Capacity to decide 2. Voluntary decision 3. Knowledge
Conflict of Interest • The client’s welfare is at the forefront of the ethical decision making. • Any dual relationship must be avoided. • Any favoritism must be avoided. • Receiving payment outside of contract and any substantial gift must be declined.
Accurate Documentation • Data must be taken correctly and in accordance with the treatment plan. • Presentation of inaccurate data is fraud. • Any change in the treatment plan must be approved by the team before implementation. • Records of services must be maintained, preserved and considered confidential.
