School Counselors are getting attention! • President O’Bama • North Star – US to be a national leader in college graduation rates 2020 • Arne Duncan • Federal funds to be used by administrators to provide relevant professional development specific to school counselors • Michele O’Bama • Reach Higher – Graduation and Education beyond high school • School Counselors are key personnel in achieving these goals • Special task force to include school counselor educators, Harvard University and the White House developed to address needs for training, professional development and issues impacting school counselors • White House is instituting a School Counselor of the Year recognition Office of Career, Counseling and Support Services

Streamlining M-CAR • Priority elements are in the Domain I • Annual Agreement is key to setting goals for the year, for program improvement and working with meaningful data in developing comprehensive counseling programs. • Domain II defines and details 80%. • SB 2423 aligns with the RAMP rubric and gives schools an opportunity to compete with the award. • Documentation can be duplicated for indicators, documents are: • signed and dated • Authentic – letterhead, co-signatures with admins or other staff • Date stamped through electronic means – emails, word doc, spreadsheets, tables • Online programs and devices Office of Career, Counseling and Support Services

TRANSITIONS • Designed to Increase college going rates and prepare for the future with proven, comprehensive career exploration and college planning tools • Assist with student Management for Monitoring & Accountability • Provide comprehensive career and education solutions that help students connect personal interests and abilities to career aspirations and then develop an education plan to reach their goals. TRANSITIONS (for Counselors/Teachers) • Staff will have at their finger tips a library of lesson plans that helps them bring Transitions’ information and tools into the classroom. • Educators can integrate career and education planning into their courses without having to create lesson plans or activities from scratch. • Save time with full tracking and reporting capabilities that free counselors to help more students Office of Career, Counseling and Support Services

TRANSITIONS • Utilized to develop detailed middle school and high school course plans with tools that align to students’ career goals and state standards • Create a secure online portfolio that moves with you, from middle school to high school, high school to college, and beyond. • Submit applications and transcripts electronically, making it easy and cost-effective to send college applications Office of Career, Counseling and Support Services
