School Counselors are getting attention! • President O’Bama • North Star – US to be a national leader in college graduation rates 2020 • Arne Duncan • Federal funds to be used by administrators to provide relevant professional development specific to school counselors • Michele O’Bama • Reach Higher – Graduation and Education beyond high school • School Counselors are key personnel in achieving these goals • Special task force to include school counselor educators, Harvard University and the White House developed to address needs for training, professional development and issues impacting school counselors • White House is instituting a School Counselor of the Year recognition Office of Career, Counseling and Support Services

Streamlining M-CAR • Priority elements are in the Domain I • Annual Agreement is key to setting goals for the year, for program improvement and working with meaningful data in developing comprehensive counseling programs. • Domain II defines and details 80%. • SB 2423 aligns with the RAMP rubric and gives schools an opportunity to compete with the award. • Documentation can be duplicated for indicators, documents are: • signed and dated • Authentic – letterhead, co-signatures with admins or other staff • Date stamped through electronic means – emails, word doc, spreadsheets, tables • Online programs and devices Office of Career, Counseling and Support Services
