Formative Assessment Strategiesthat help Students Learn • Learning Targets—breaking down GLEs into simple language for students • Examples of strong and weak work. • Progress Monitoring—frequent feedback about how the student is doing on GLEs • Self-assessment—teaching the student to monitor their own learning of the GLEs • Focused Learning—customizing instruction to allow students to focus on difficult GLEs • SELF-REFLECTION—having students write about their learning of the GLEs • Instructional PLAN—based on available data–have a plan for each class that covers each and every student 6
An EAGLE Grade 3 Math Class Created as a database in The LEAPdata Query System • Print your EAGLE Class showing students • Sign in to the LEAPdata Query System • Click on Create a Database • Select the students shown for the grade • Give the database a name and Save • View or Modify to add students that were not shown (need state id) and Save • Generate Reports for analysis (Performance and Individual Student Reports) • Come up with Instructional Strategies • Use EAGLE to Monitor Progress 8
Key Features of EAGLE • Student-friendlyGLEs—help students learn what they are expected to know at their grade level and help teachers communicate those expectations to students. • Reports for Students—foster student self-assessment and show students how well they are progressing on each GLE they’ve been tested | Encourages students to focus their learning on particular GLEs. • Reports for Teachers—inform teachers how the class as a whole is progressing AND how individual students are performing on each GLE. • Customized Test Construction—allows teachers to build tests based on targeted instruction | customized tests can be assigned to an individual student or a group of students 11
