  2. Where is Niger? Niger is located in the northern area of Africa. Niger neighbors seven other countries: Mali, Algeria, Libya, Chad, Nigeria, Benin, and Burkina. Niger is shown in green on the map to the right.

  3. History The area of Niger was originally part of France, this was until 1960, when Niger got it’s independence from France. Till 1993, Niger was under a one party military rule. Now, Niger is under democratic rule.

  4. Geography Niger, as you know, is located in the western area of the northern part of Africa, this is right smack in the middle of the Sahara desert. Niger is a mostly dry country, it is generally hot and is mostly covered in desert. Near the south it is a tad bit tropical. Area: About 1, 267,000 Square kilometers Compared to the world: it the the 22nd largest country in the world.

  5. The People People from Niger are called Nigerians. Population: In 2009, the population was 15,306,252 Life expectancy: 52.6 years on average. Males: 51.39 years, Females: 53.85 years Common Religion: 80% there are Muslims, the other 20% include Christian and indigenous beliefs.

  6. The Government and Economy The type of government in Niger is a republic, compared to the last government which was more of a single party rules thing. Niger is a very poor country, it is one of the poorest in the world. The average GDP (stands for Gross domestic product, the Amount of money the house-hold makes) per capita is only around $700, that’s less than $2 a day.

  7. About the Flag The meaning of this flag simple, you could figure it out just by looking at it. The orange on the top stands for the Sahara desert which happens to be north. The white stands for purity or hope, which is generally an icon for almost all flags. The little circle in the middle represents the sun. The green on the bottom stands for the grassy areas near the southern part of Niger.

  8. Fun facts There are only five broadcasting TV stations in Niger. The average military expenders in Niger is around 1.3 of the total GDP. The main language spoken there is French. Niger only has 3 branches of the military: the Nigerian Armed forces, the Army, and the Nigerian Air force.
