REC 1 – Recreation Use and Facilities Assessment • Existing Use • Conduct Vehicle Counts • Status: Summer and Fall counts completed and distributed to TWIG. Final count will be completed on May 18, 2008. • Summarize Additional Recreation Use Data Developed through the Recreation Visitor Surveys • Status: Pending completion of Recreation Visitor Survey. • Facility Assessment • Consult with USFS regarding Facility Assessments • Status: USFS to be contacted later this spring . • Conduct Field Surveys, including Facility and UDP Assessment • Status: Field surveys to be conducted late Spring and early Summer. • Data Analysis and Report Preparation • Status: Draft Report due at the end of April 2009. 9
REC 2 – Recreation Visitor Surveys • Survey Instrument Development • Status: Surveys and protocols completed. Final approval pending. • Conduct General Recreation Visitor Surveys • Status: Recreation visitor survey to be conducted between Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends 2008. • Data Analysis & Report Preparation • Status: Draft report due at the end of February 2009. 10
REC 3 – Reservoir Recreation Opportunities Assessment • Characterize Reservoir Recreation Opportunities • Status: To be compiled later this Spring and Summer. • Summarize Historic Water Levels at Project Reservoirs • Status: To be compiled later this Spring and Summer. • Access and Safety Conditions • Will be completed as part of with Recreation Facilities Assessment (REC-1) • User Conflicts • Data to be obtained from Recreation Visitor Survey (REC-2) • Data Analysis & Report Preparation • Status: Draft report due at the end of April 2009. 11
REC 4 – Stream-based Recreation Opportunities • Describe general stream based recreation opportunities • Status: Preliminary work completed. Additional data will be developed in from Focus Groups. • Focus Group Interviews • Status: Focus group topics have been developed and focus group participants have been identified. Focus groups have been schedule for April and May 2008. • Flow Studies • Develop flow study surveys instruments for each study group • Status: Whitewater flow study instrument completed. Angling and Trail use/Stream crossing completed pending approval. • Conduct Angling, Stream Crossing, and Whitewater Boating Flow Studies • Status: Flow studies will be conducted during summer of 2008. • Data Analysis & Report Preparation • Status: Draft report due at the end of February 2009. 12
REC 5 – Visual Quality Assessment • Existing Visual Condition • Document the EVC of Project features and facilities from associated viewsheds • Identify KOPs and photodocument existing Project facilities and features • Conduct VMS inventory in coordination with USDA-FS • Photograph French Meadows and Hell Hole reservoirs from KOPs at full pool and lowest expected pool • Describe water level fluctuations at Ralston Afterbay • Status: KOPs identified and low water photodocumentation at Hell Hole and French Meadows reservoirs completed. All other task to be completed during summer of 2008. • Data Analysis & Report Preparation • Status: Draft report due at the end of November 2008. 13
Next Steps • Finalize all Flow Study survey forms • Complete Focus Group process • Identify Flow Study participants for each user group • Finalize Flow Study dates and logistics • Initiate General Visitor Recreation Survey • Conduct Flow Studies • Initiate data collection for REC 1, REC 3 and REC 5 14
