  1. Principles of Interior Designing Interior Designing Interior Designing is the art and creativity of enhancing the interiors of a place to make it healthier and aesthetically pleasing environment for the people using the space. An interior designer is someone who plans, researches, coordinates, and manages related projects. Interior design is a multi-dimensional profession that includes conceptual development, space planning, site inspections, programming, and research, communicating with the stakeholders of a project, construction management, and execution of the design. Principles of Interior Designing We often see impressive images of interior spaces on net but we don’t know what actually makes the space attractive. Want to know the secret? There are certain tricks which designers use to come up with brilliant graphics, spaces, and designs every single time. These are the thumbnails that each designer uses and should thoroughly know about them. Let us also go through them once: BALANCE It refers to the ordered distribution of elements of equal visual weight for achieving visual equilibrium. Balance can only be achieved when the visual weight of the elements are evenly distributed along a central axis. Balance can be achieved by 3 ways namely Symmetrical, Asymmetrical and Radial. Symmetrical Balance- space is divided into 2 equal halves, centered on a central axis. Then both the halves are equally compensated to give a calm and cool feel to the living space. Asymmetrical Balance- the odd number of elements are used by keeping an imaginary central axis as the focal point. Output in this method is more organic and energetic as compared to symmetrical one. Radial Balance- involves a central piece from which all other elements seem to radiate to arrange them in circular symmetry. REPETITION Repetition is used in almost every Interior Designing project to create symmetrical balance. It’s a formal and well-structured. It can get boring if used too much. Repetition looks brilliant if used to create 3D- patterns. Repetition, thus works very well in bigger spaces like parks, corridors, staircases etc. Elements/items repeated in an orderly pattern then the spaces between them create a sense of repetition. It can be achieved in any living space by following 3 methods – Repetition, Alternation and Progression. CONTRAST It refers to the difference in the luminance/color of objects which differentiates them from one another. In Interior Designing, contrast can be achieved by 3 elements namely color, form and space. Contrast can also be achieved by combination of two or more forms. Contrast is one of the most popularly used design tricks

  2. to draw attention to certain elements in the space. Achieving contrast is easy with the help of different colors, or by adding a splash of color in a monochromatic space. UNITY What makes a space look complete? A well-designed space is a piece of Art. Therefore, every element in that space should belong there. It simply means, that everything including ceiling, flooring, furniture, colors art pieces and soft furnishings, all should be of the same family. Every element should be considered as a single entity. HARMONY It means to implement the effective blend between related items/elements such as shapes, color, etc. either symmetrically or asymmetrically. Repeating colors or specific elements, motifs like similar door handles, or arched doorways, or flooring, similar materials or even the style of design in the house connects the entire space in harmony. PROPORTION & GRADATION Gradation and proportion creates interest and movement in a space. It provides the straight and aerial perspectives when added to different elements. When applied to 3D spaces, gradation and proportion can be used in various ways. Not just in colors, but in levels, heights, masses etc. gradations and proportions can be achieved in interior design. EMPHASIS Emphasis is something we all are well aware of. It simply means that every room or space should have a focal point, whether it is architectural or an object. Oversized artwork or a large piece of furniture can also be used as a focal point in a space. Interior Designing elements like color, texture etc are used to add emphasis to a focal point. The above principles of interior design are not standards; they should just be a recurring thought in your mind while designing. Some designers intuitively follow these rules in their creations and thus produce amazing outputs. Practicing these design principles in everyday home decor, designs and art will uplift your work and sharpen your skills multifold! Future of Interior Designing Interior Designers have always been involved in pushing their boundaries in technological innovations. We have seen the evolution of the design industry and never before at this fast pace for many years. One such technological advancement has been the Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality instruments, which enables the designer to lure the customers and compete with rivals. Each of these innovations has been imperative in transforming the design world. It has only transformed the design world but has also given opportunities to interior designers, architects to grow further in this competitive field. The future of interior designing is brighter than ever before without any second thoughts. To know more about these advancements stay connected. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gurukul Institute of Fashion Technology Fashion|Jwellery|Interior Learn The Basics About Interior Designing From Gurukul Institution. #PrinciplesOfInteriorDesigning #ElementsOfInteriorDesign #LearnInteriorDesignBasics #FutureInInteriorDesigning
