In Spanish we add “s” and “es” also to indicate when using plurals. • Pizza-when word ends with vowels (a,e,I,o,u) , add “s” pizzas • Automovíl- words that end with a consonant, add –”es” automovíles
Definite and Indefinite Articles • In Spanish, articles match nouns in gender and number. • All Spanish nouns, even if they refer to objects, are either masculine or feminine.
In English • The definite article “the” is used with nouns to indicate specific persons, places or things. • The boy with the red shirt • The girls with the black back packs.
Defiinitearticles • Thedefinitearticleis in front of thenoun. • agrees in gender and number • Ejemplos (examples) • La chica (onegirl) • Las chicas (more thanonegirl)
el = the singular la = the How do you know? There is no “s”
los = the plural las = the How do you know? They both have an “S”
Masculine Nouns: • usually end in “- o” • used with definite article “el”(“the”) El chico El bolígrafo El cuaderno Other endings for masculine words -L -o -n -e -s (not –as)
Feminine Nouns: usually end with –a or -as • but may end in “- a”,-as “- ción”, • “- sión”, “- dad” • used with definite article “la”(“the”) La chica La acción La televisión La posibilidad

Indefinite articles Rules of gender and number are the same as definite articles, but the word we put in front of the noun will be different.
