Lec 28: Ch3.(T&LD): Traffic Analysis – Traffic assignment • Learn how to assign generated and distributed trips to the street system approaching the site – manually • Learn how to assign estimate turning movements at individual site access points (that is, intersections) • Understand the importance of checking the layout of the existing system and the location of proposed site to minimize the impact of generated traffic on to the surrounding street network.
Review about the difference in trip distribution process Trip distribution for sites: Trip interchange to and from the site and all the other zones Typical trip distribution: Trip interchange (O/D) matrix for all zones
Trip assignment • Determining the amount of traffic that will use certain routes on the roadway network. Consider: • Logical routings, available roadway capacities, left turns at critical intersections, and projected (and perceived) minimum travel times. • Multiple paths should often be assigned between origins and destinations. • Reflect the horizon year(s) and conditions at that time • Reflect the analysis time periods (peak hours) • Reflect the reality of movement – one-way and turn restrictions • Trip lengths (Note: Overhead transparencies are used. Course notes will be given in class.)
