Background History • Childhood: • He was abused/he mutilated animals/started fires • Teenage years: • Popular in school • Inability to maintain/achiever an erection • Counseled; diagnosed w/mental • Young adulthood: • Put into mental institute/released • Became delusional then moved into apartment by father • He would capture, kill, disembowel animals in home • Mix into blender Richard Trenten Chase

  4. Delusions • Nazis/UFO • Turn blood to powder • Poison under soap • Mother was out to get him • Smoothies=non-shrinkable heart • Hillside Strangler • Fascinated by him • Thought to be victim • Unlocked doors were an invitation inside

  5. Spree Killer • Chase committed random murders • Shoot them; mainly in head • Remove and store their organs • Bathe/drink their blood • Stabbing/slicing different parts of the body • Rape victims repeatedly Richard Trenten Chase

  6. Victims • Ambrose Griffin • 51-year-old engineer • Shot in a drive-by 22-rifle • Was a “warm-up” for Chase • Teresa Wallin • 3-month pregnant woman • Shot 3 times twice in head • Raped post-mortem • Stabbed/retrained of organs and blood • Committed mass murder • 4 other victims

Conviction • 1979 Chase stood trial six counts of murder • The case hinged on Chase’s history of mental Illness • He had a Life sentence to die in gas Chamber • Inmates feared him, talked him to commit suicide • December 26,1980 he was found dead • Autopsy determined he committed suicide by overdose • Chase in court
