Based in the Netherlands, NIPO Software is part of Kantar, one of the world's largest insight, information, and consultancy networks. NIPO Software traditionally installed its computer-assisted personal interview (CAPI) and computer-assisted web interview (CAWI) software on its customers’ on-premises servers, sent them annual updates, and worked hard to support multiple versions of its solutions. To reduce this support burden, NIPO Software wanted to switch to a software-as-a-service (SaaS) model, but quickly realized that it would be too difficult and expensive to maintain the scalable, high-performance infrastructure it needed. SITUATION: NIPO Software used Windows Azure cloud services to build three interconnected services: Nfield CAPI to conduct interviews with smartphones or tablets; Nfield CAWI to distribute self-directed web surveys; and Nfield Manager to manage survey content and collected data. Each client runs on multitenant Windows Azure web roles that use Windows Communication Foundation to connect to a worker role that processes survey results and stores the data in Windows Azure Blob services, Windows Azure Table services, and Windows Azure SQL Database. SOLUTION: • NIPO Software reduced deployment and support costs, increased agility, accelerated updates from annually to biweekly • Nfield can support 100,000 web interviews, up to 20,000 face-to-face interviewers simultaneously, and more than 50 million interviews a year • Used Windows Azure to offer enhanced innovation and lower total cost of ownership for customers • Expects to double revenue in three to four years BENEFITS: WINDOWS AZURE CASE STUDY
