  1. Q & A Quiz

  2. Enjoy checking your PlaNeT-2 knowledge matching questions and answers

  3. Do you know… when was the last RCT for platelets thresholds done? In 1993 by Andrew et al (1993). The two arms they used were >150x109/L and 50-150x109/L

  4. Do you know that… ? • The current national transfusion guidance is based on consensus rather than evidence • British Committee for Standards in Haematology (2004) • United Kingdom Blood Services (2007)

  5. Two criteria to put a baby on the screening log • Baby born at less than 34 weeks GA • Platelets <100

  6. If the baby is consented and his platelets go up to 52 then 51 and then 50 in next three days, what should you do? I should wait. As long as the platelet count is 50 or above, the baby can not be randomised.

  7. Two places where you can find the forms for randomisation • In the PlaNeT-2 file • On line at www.planet-2.com

  8. How can I randomise a baby to the trial? You can randomise through the front page of the Planet-2 website or go to www.sealedenvelope.com

  9. What should you monitor closely for the first 2 weeks? • Any bleeding. • Nurses are very good identifying when an abnormal bleeding is happening. • Take extra care looking at puncture sites, around the stoma and mucosal lining

  10. What is wrong with this data collection plan?

  11. So, is this plan right now?

  12. Is this a better plan then?

  13. By looking at the front of the each PlaNeT-2 pack How can you know at glance what form is due to be completed?

  14. There are 10 examples of bad data quality in this form. Which ones are they?

  15. The baby is transferred out of the Unit, two things you should do: • Inform the PlaNeT-2 team • Keep all the PlaNeT-2 forms

  16. When does data collection finish? • When the baby is 38 weeks CGA (provided we have collected data from 28 study days). • When the baby is discharged, transferred or dies.

  17. What is a Serious Adverse Event (SAE)? An event that results: • in death • is life-threatening • requires hospitalisation or prolongation of existing hospitalisation (including readmission within 28 study days if discharged home earlier) • there is a likelihood of persistent or significant disability or incapacity

  18. Could you give two examples of Serious Adverse Events (SAE)? Answer

  19. What should you do if a SAE happens? • Proceed as Trust protocol indicates for that situation • Inform the research team as soon as possible

  20. Who has responsibility for PlaNeT-2? Everyone!

  21. If you are not sure, what should you do? • Ask us!! We are here to support you. • Check on-line: www.planet-2.com
