Know the Lord Know the Lord
Loretta has two dogs. • One of them is named Shortie. Ken, Loretta’s husband, says that Shortie likes me. This past week, Shortie and their other dog, Max, got in a pretty serious fight. Thursday we went into their home, and had been there only a short time when Shortie came across the room to see me.
Loretta has two dogs. • He was moving pretty slowly (he was hurting. , but he came across the room, and then laid down at my feet. Carolyn was reviewing with me how Shortie was in the other room when he heard my voice, or smelled me, and came across the kitchen to see me.
I’m not Shortie’s master, but the incident reminded us of a passage in Isaiah.
The ox knows its owner! • (Isa 1:2-4 NKJV) Hear, O heavens, and give ear, O earth! For the LORD has spoken: "I have nourished and brought up children, And they have rebelled against Me; {3} The ox knows its owner And the donkey its master's crib; But Israel does not know, My people do not consider.”
The ox knows its owner! • (Isa 1:2-4 NKJV) {4} Alas, sinful nation, A people laden with iniquity, A brood of evildoers, Children who are corrupters! They have forsaken the LORD, They have provoked to anger The Holy One of Israel, They have turned away backward.
Our study this morning is “Know the Lord,” but how?

God will hold us accountable for knowing His word and living by it.
God’s word needs to be in our heart. • (Psa 119:11 KJV) Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.
We need to love the Bible and not forget it. • (Psa 119:16 KJV) I will delight myself in thy statutes:I will not forget thy word.
Ask God to help us live by His word. (Rom 2:13 NKJV) (for not the hearers of the law are just in the sight of God, but the doers of the law will be justified;
Help me understand it. • (Psa 119:18 NKJV) Open my eyes, that I may seeWondrous things from Your law.
Help us appreciate what the Bible does for us. • (Psa 119:105 NKJV) Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.
There must be a willingness to accept and do what the Bible says. • (Mat 6:22-24 NKJV) "The lamp of the body is the eye. If therefore your eye is good, your whole body will be full of light. {23} "But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great is that darkness!
There must be a willingness to accept and do what the Bible says. • (Mat 6:22-24 NKJV) {24} "No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon. • (Mat 6:24 TLB) "You cannot serve two masters: God and money.
Some will think they were doing the will of God, when they were not. • (Mat 7:21-23 NKJV) "Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. {22} "Many will say to Me in that day, 'Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?' {23} "And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!'
Ask God for help to live according to His will. • (Psa 119:17 NKJV) Deal bountifully with Your servant, That I may live and keep Your word.
A famine of His word was coming. • (Amos 8:11 NKJV) "Behold, the days are coming," says the Lord GOD, "That I will send a famine on the land,Not a famine of bread, Nor a thirst for water, But of hearing the words of the LORD.
Hope for the future. • (Isa 9:2-3 NKJV) The people who walked in darkness Have seen a great light; Those who dwelt in the land of the shadow of death, Upon them a light has shined. {3} You have multiplied the nation And increased its joy; They rejoice before You According to the joy of harvest, As men rejoice when they divide the spoil.
Jesus was a fulfillment of this prophecy. • (Mat 4:13-16 NKJV) And leaving Nazareth, He came and dwelt in Capernaum, which is by the sea, in the regions of Zebulun and Naphtali, {14} that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying: {15} "The land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, By the way of the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles:
Jesus was a fulfillment of this prophecy. • (Mat 4:13-16 NKJV) {16} The people who sat in darkness have seen a great light, And upon those who sat in the region and shadow of death Light has dawned."
Jesus asked a challenging question. • (Luke 18:6-8 NKJV) Then the Lord said, "Hear what the unjust judge said. {7} "And shall God not avenge His own elect who cry out day and night to Him, though He bears long with them? {8} "I tell you that He will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will He really find faith on the earth?"
Many will lose their faith. • (Mat 24:12-14 NKJV) "And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold. {13} "But he who endures to the end shall be saved. {14} "And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.
We need to share our faith with others so that they may know the Lord.
We need to share the Bible with others. • We help send Bibles to others countries where there has been a famine of the word of the Lord.
