  2. Recap

  3. Project Goals

  4. Project Approach

  5. Suggested Interface Updates

  6. Suggested Interface Updates – Current Ingest Screen • Overhaul the metaphor • The navigation is set up for database administrators as opposed to everyday users. This needs to be reorganized. (See additional slides for more details on how). • Reorder the fields into an order that makes sense to the user. (See suggested updates for additional details). • Eliminate mistakes – Display name should be auto filled by the system to eliminate frequent mistakes. (format of display name TBD and to be decided by NBC’s internal teams). • Apply Usability Best Practices • Rename Asset Expiry to be Expiration date. Rename Search Tag to be Tags. • Remove FLX File, PH File, & Priority fields (these no longer apply). • Apply Usability Best Practices • Add “Add New” as a selection option to Show, Content type, Season and Episode and allow the user to do these on this screen. This removes the New Episode fields. (Example on suggested updates slide). • Make dropdowns combination dropdown, text field so that user can begin inputting an item to search for it in the dropdown list. • Allow correction/deletion of misspelled data. • Make personalization a priority – default dropdown choices as much as possible. Default the users’ location, content type, season and subcategory to avoid them selecting the wrong choice. 1 1 2 3 4 3 6 1 5 3

  7. Suggested Interface Updates - Navigation updates • Assets – approval, editing metadata, deleting has been merged. • Users – Business Units and Groups have been folded into the Users section as all of these data are related. Profiles and Roles are subcategories under each item. 2 1

  8. Suggested Interface Updates – Ingest Screen • Apply Usability Best Practices - Update background color to be light, and the text color to be dark to have a contrast level that is easy to read. • Apply Usability Best Practices – example of putting “Add New” option in the dropdown selections so that the user can complete task without leaving the screen. Clicking would bring up a pop up with “New Episode / Category” fields. • Apply Usability Best Practices – Combine the Ingest and Approve actions in one screen in order to decrease clicking around in the application and increase cycle time. After Upload has been clicked, Approve becomes active. (Additional Slide show flow improvement). • Apply Usability Best Practices – Redundantwatermarking has been removed as it is unnecessary here. This lives under shows. • Overhaul the Metaphor – Encoding should be moved to the preview screen. 1 2 3 4 5

  9. Suggested Interface Updates – Current Process Flow

  10. Suggested Interface Updates – Proposed Process Flow By merging approval, metadata and delete, and by moving the external encoder into the preview section, we are able to streamline the upload flow by eliminating multiple actions and speeding up the process.

  11. Next Steps • Short-term • Remove unused functionality (PH file , FLX, Priority fields in the ingest screen) • Rearrange remaining fields/functions based on proposed design (Update navigation to short term navigation map on page 10) • Pre-populate fields based on system knowledge (Show, Category, Sub category, Location, Display Name) • Enable correction or deletion of misspelled data (Show, Category, Sub category, Location, Display Name) • Rename fields to be in-line with users expectations (Asset Expiry = Expiration Date, Search Tag = Tags) • Medium-term • Invest in customized admin site based on user profile • Invest in design for a dashboard • Long-term • Allowing users external to the NBC network to ingest files. • Updating browser compatibility. • Fixing trusted site issue in IE. • Updating the necessary file format to be more inline with current and future video standards. • Update business rules and process flows. • Understand and define costs for services. • Create and update with anti-piracy standards. • Make process for naming and coding more efficient. • Define Editorial Workflow.

  12. How Naviscent Can Help • Realize the full DSR admin design • Additional discovery • Conduct interviews with the Business Engagement team and further interviews with the Technical Solutions team • Update business rules and process flows. • Understand and define costs for services. • Create and update with anti-piracy standards. • Make process for naming and coding more efficient. • Define Editorial Workflow. • Conduct an Information Architecture exercise to insure the DSR admin nomenclature and organization matches end user’s for the best possible customer experience • Design the segments of the DSR admin that have not yet been addressed: • Dashboard: to provide quick visual feedback on system health, tasks in process • Customization of site based on user profile • Users, Shows, Systems tasks and flow design • Skin the designs with visual design • Conduct usability tests during the design iterations and after visual design • Engineering Support • Prototyping, Front-end development and Back-end development support • Enable users external to the NBC network to ingest files. • Address browser compatibility, and fix trusted site issue in IE. • Enable DSR admin, DSR viewer to handle ingest and display of current and future video standards.

  13. How Naviscent Can Help • Take DSR design into multiplatform and Multi-language environments • Explore the existing and potential use cases for DSR with the Business Engagement Team and Technical Solutions Team • Redesign DSR for use on PC’s, Tablet, and Mobile Devices • Address localization for languages spoken by DSR end users. • Identify opportunities for improving user experience in varying bandwidth scenarios. • Build in opportunities for capture of metrics enabling reporting and analysis of cost of services • Look at the potential benefits of unifying DSR and DSR Admin to take advantage of efficiencies in design efforts and end user task flows • Skin the designs with device appropriate visual designs • Conduct usability tests during design iterations and after visual design • Prototype the new designs, Provide Front-end development and Back-end development support
