  2. Introduction In this presentation you will find a brief overview of some of the modules that can be found in the Student Success Strategies (SSS) modules. For more information in any of these areas, please see that module in its entirety.

Student Success Strategies (SSS) In addition to this module, each module in the SSS is designed to help students be successful! • Course navigation • Services for students • Scholarly writing and APA • Online discussion threads • Assignments • Basic computer literacy • Stress and time management • Student resources

  4. What is Smarthinking? Smarthinking is a virtual tutoring source free to Chamberlain students. • There is a direct link in every course home page. • Can be found in “Tutor Source” under the “Course Home” tab in the left side column of your course. • Smarthinking has a writing center where you can submit assignments for review by a tutor. • You can choose 2 areas for tutors to help and provide you feedback with such as main idea, content development, organization, introduction/conclusion, use of resources, grammar and mechanics, and sentence structure.

Citation of resources and reference is critical Give authors the credit they deserve for their work Plagiarism is stealing words Paraphrasing other’s work is acceptable as long as you give the author credit for the idea by citing the work. Read and use your own words when writing about a topic. Remember, that all quotations must have a citation and a page of paragraph number Academic Integrity

  6. Academic Integrity continued-Examples of Plagiarism • Copying and pasting information or using the exact words of a source even if this is cited (unless quotation marks are used). Excessive copying even if contained within quotation marks is also unacceptable. • Submitting another person’s work as your own. • Sharing your work with others in any manner (i.e., sharing with a friend or uploading a paper to a public website).

  7. Academic Integrity continued-Examples of Plagiarism • Collaborating with other students on an assignment without instructor approval. Course assignments are to be completed individually by each student, without collaboration with anyone else unless the assignment specifically states that collaboration is allowed or required. • Self-plagiarism, or the unreferenced re-use of written work done for previous assignments, is not allowed. • If a course is retaken for any reason, new assignments and discussion responses must be created.

Turn-It-In (TII) • Turnitin.com is an application that helps support the development of your skills in preparing written assignments by comparing your paper to billions of pages of active and archived Internet information, student papers previously submitted to Turnitin.com, and thousands of periodicals, journals, and publications. • Chamberlain College of Nursing’s students agree ALL required papers may be subject to submission for textual similarity review to Turnitin.com. • Certain assignments in each course have been designated to be automatically submitted to Turnitin.com to check for potential plagiarism

  9. TII continued… Be aware than any Similarity Index of 25% or greater will trigger extra scrutiny for plagiarism. This doesn’t automatically mean that you have plagiarized; just that Turnitin.com is reporting a high degree of similarity with other sources. The report icon in the Gradebook is color coded as follows: • ·         Blue: no matching text • ·         Green: up to 24% matching text • ·    Yellow: 25% to 49% matching text • ·  Orange: 50% to 74% matching text • ·        Red: 75% to 100% matching text**Any matches athat are yellow, orange or red will receive extra scrutiny for plagiarism
