  3. Government Regulation of Business • Unfair Business practices led to Government regulations during the Guilded Age

Immigration • The Port of entry in the late 1800’s was New York • Rapid expansion of Urban areas was a major result of immigration • Political Machines provided immigrants with Jobs • Immigration laws discriminated most against Asian immigrants • Late 1890’s most immigrants came from Southern and Eastern European Countries • Political Machines came to power because they provided Jobs for immigrant

  5. Urbanization • The U.S. became more urban in the late 1880’s because farm machines and factory goods reduced the need for farm labor • Slums and Tenements best describe Urban areas by the early 1900’s • A widening gap between rich and poor resulted from rapid urbanization
