How Parties Help Government • Setting Goals • Each party establishes positions on the issues • And sets goals for the gov. • These are known as platforms and planks • If elected the party member tries to turn these into programs
How Parties Help Government • Providing Leadership • This is the day-to-day running of our country • Making laws in the legislature • Carrying out the laws in the executive branch • Interprets the laws in the judicial branch
How Parties Help Government • Acting as a Watchdog • The party not in power keeps an eye on the party in power and lets the people know if they are not keeping their promises • Keeps an eye on the members of the other party to see if they are doing anything “wrong”
