  2. It feels like we’ve met! The Fruits of the First Strategic Impact Inquiry CI MEL Group: https://youtu.be/9r-uxHQ8xRE

  3. What is an SII, and why should you care? • The purpose of an SII is to build clarity from the ground up about the nature and drivers of enduring impact, and about CARE’s contribution to it. • A simple illustration | Raise your hands if: • You have a clear concept of what “gender equality and women’s voice” looks like • You have evidence that your work colleagues share a clear concept of GEWV • You have evidence that program participants & stakeholders share the same concept • You are confident that CARE has good information on whether GEWV is changing • You are confident that CARE has good insight on why GEWV is changing • You are confident that CARE is learning effectively from its work on GEWV, and has adequate global processes to analyze and change its work to improve impacts.

  4. Now Disrupt their Worlds • What do we look to see now? • What should we look for over time? • What are the boundaries of our imagination of impact?

  5. Guiding Research Questions for SII on GiE • What impacts are CARE’s emergency response programs having on gender equality in communities during and in the wake of humanitarian crisis? • How do CARE’s ways of working – our culture, structures, constituencies and accountabilities – lead our crisis interventions to result in higher, or lower, levels of impact on gender equality?

  6. Priorities Align | Accelerated Action • Humanitarian Excellence • Gender Equality and Women’s Voice • Rigorous Impact Measurement

  7. Mandates Align | A coalition for change • MELCOP | Growing community helping the global CARE understand, learn from, and be accountable for impacts • Frontline learners • Networked leadership • SII | Rigorous examination of diverse evidence to build system-wide insight and accountability on the nature and drivers of CARE’s contributions (or not) on a focused aspect to enduring social change • Grounded Theory • Participatory Dialogue of Knowledges • Research for Change

  8. Learning by Design | SII Lens on Knowledge Action-Research Paradigm: The act of inquiry produces new relations of knowledge-power and accountabilities for change Individual & Institutional Capacity-building: critical reflective practice, theory-building and research design training, knowledge-creation collaborations, causal analysis and synthesis Conceptualization: Iterative integration of Academic theory and Stakeholder knowledges Methodological Curation: mix of methods suited to questions, resources, capabilities and organizational learning goals.
