3 Main steps to doing well in PSLE Science….. Step 1 : Content Mastery (Acquisition & Understanding of Textbook Knowledge) Step 2 : Process Skills Mastery (Acquisition of Basic & Integrated Process Skills listed in the MOE Syllabus) Step 3 : Answering Mastery (Ability to make connections between abstract situation to content knowledge – Application)
Points to note • Section A : To examine the options given carefully before choosing the best possible one. Diagrams, pictures, graphs, tables, etc. given are for deriving additional information………….these need to be studied carefully.
Section B : To be precise and concise in the answers. To give answers as required (Who, What, Where, Why, When, How?) Concepts MUST be correct and clearly expressed. (No deduction if grammatically incorrect provided idea/concept is clear). Key words DO NOT = Right Answer If additional information which is wrong is included, marks will also be deducted. Diagrams, pictures, graphs, tables, etc. given are for deriving additional information………….these need to be studied carefully. When examples are required, give the obvious correct ones !
Monitoring and Assistance • Help to ensure that child knows the text book content through and through • P3 to P5 content must be re-learned • Help child use concept map to link concepts • Monitor work especially workbooks (application based)…need to pay attention to corrections • Help to ensure that HW is done and handed in on time ! • Help to check that the boys follow the time-table and has the “stuffs” required for the day’s Sc. lessons. • Work with the teacher
