Teen Suicide • Emile Durkheim has most comprehensive study of suicide to date! • Says those with low social integration have higher probability of suicide • What is social integration • Attachment to social groups or society (sense of belonging)
How can we help? • Follow the signs! • Alcohol/Drug Use (Heavy) • Triggering Events (death of family member, fights, unwanted pregnancy, etc.) • Age (more common over 13) • Sex/Gender(males are more likely to succeed) • Pop. Density-Less pop. Areas more likely to have suicide • Family relations (weakened social bonds) • Cluster Effect (Domino Effect…1 does it more follow)
